    PS2 device help

A long time Xboxer here, going to pick up a PS2 soon. What is the best device to get for downloading rosters from this site, such as Blacklovers' Madden rosters and rosters for MLB.
Will an AR Max do the job,or is Sharkport the way to go?

Do NOT get a sharkport! They will not work on any PS2 built after March 2003 (or something like that). Unless its an old unit, it will be useless to you. Furthermore, they were incredibly annoying in how often they would or wouldn't work. You had to take your PS2 to the PC to connect it as well. I still have my old one but my max drive is better.

If you get a max drive, it is very reliable but just slow to copy files. Large files can take up to 5 minutes to copy but its just a USB flash memory stick. Don't get a large one as almost any memory stick will work. The catch is you need the PS2 disc that goes with it. It has the software needed to copy files back and forth to your memory card (sold separately). If you get the Max Drive, just remember they use the word "crush" instead of "zip". Its pretty easy to use.

I have codebreaker and it works great. Its really is a matter of preferance I suppose. But if you can only find a certain roster file in AR MAX format and need it for codebreaker for example, download a little program called "PS2 save builder". Works like a charm converting files to different formats.

I recently purchased Madden 07 for my PS2 slimline and i need to know if you can get a resolution higher than 480i? I set my PS2 setting to 16:9 and my new Panasonic HDTV goes up to 1080P. When i play games, my tv screen shows 4:3 and 480i. Is this all it allows or can i get a better resolution. Help me!!!

whatever you get, make sure you backup your memory card before you use it with the device. i think a lot of people learned that the hard way. and if you get a maxdrive, don't try to do any deleting or anything like that with it, just copy the files and that is it, otherwise your memory card will get wiped and you'll lose whatevers on it.

Need help with the resolution question. I just picked this thread to use instead of starting a new one.

Madden 07 for PS2 does not have progressive scan (480p).It does have 16:9 mode and features Pro Logic II sound. The back of the game box usually indicates if a PS2 game has progressive scan,or you can look it up on HDTVArcade.
Bear in mind your PS2 will need to be connected via component cables for progressive output to work, and you will have to select it as an option within the game each time you play.

                    Nice threadjack,by the way.

There are a few things you should do. You said you set your PS2 up in the base settings to 16:9 which is correct. You also need to set the in game Visual settings in Madden from standard to widescreen. This will help a lot. Lastly, make sure you get a set of PS2 component cables off of ebay (I got mine for $12 including shipping). They are far better than the S-video or standard cables for the PS2. My PS2 looked like crap with the S-video connection on my HDTV when playing NCAA. Even though I had the base settings to 16:9 and the in game settings to widescreen, it still wasn't working right until I got the component cables. They are key!
