That TV does not support 1080p. If you use the VGA Cables you should set your 360 dashboard to 1280x768. Thru VGA the dashboard does offer your TV's NATIVE Resolution (1024x768), but what's gonna happen is the image is gonna be distorted because 1024x768 is not a WIDESCREEN Resolution. 1280X768 is a WIDESCREEN Resolution so if you go VGA, set your dashboard to 1280x768

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
No on 1080p, but according to the spec sheet for the tv you listed ( http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...1&displayTab=S )what makes these VGA cables so good compared to other cables? thanks!
also, here is my TV, http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TH-4.../dp/B000GANON4
will that convert to 1080p? or just 1080i with the VGA cables? thanks
the native resolution of the set is 1024x768, so 720p is the best you're going to get anyway.Comment

does it support 1080i? I think the TV is a widescreen because it plays widescreen crap perfectly. That TV does not support 1080p. Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
what about this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...311631-3311122
that's the Monster X-BOX 360 VGA Cords
is that any better?Comment

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
and you still look for the monster cables. just get the official xbox vga cable. or buy 3rd party cables. and your tv is widescreen but what that other guy is saying is that the native resolution for your tv, isnt a widescreen resolution so if you get the vga cables choose the 1280x768 resolution. 1280x768 is widescreen.Fight On for ol' SCOur men Fight On to victory.

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
Are you saying that with VGA cables you can't get a widescreen display? Because that's not true as I'm using VGA's on my LCD TV and have it in Widescreen.
I may have misunderstood what you're saying.Comment

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
it depends on the TV. 1080i is better for TVs with native resolutions of 1920 X 1080 and 720p is better for most others.NFL: Tennessee Titans

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
my native resolution on my 42' TV is 1024x768. So should I just get the component cables for HDTV for my 360, or go for the VGA cables? sorry for all the questions!Last edited by sandershokie; 03-22-2007, 08:29 AM.Comment

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
OK Guys, here's a chart that should help clear things up:

To get an understanding of the chart you have 4 options:
1. Cable
2. XBOX Resolution Setting
3. Normal 4:3
4. Widescreen 16:9
Go to VGA & you will get the info your looking for in reference to how & what setting you should use for your display.
To the OP(sandershokie) unfortunately yes your set is WIDESCREEN, but it's Native Resolution is not. What this means is your TV stretches the image to fill up your TV, making it look widescreen. (1024x768=4:3/1:33)
So your best bet would be to do 2 things via VGA Connection. Set your 360 to 848x480 & allow your TV to UPSCALE your games to 1024x768, because 480x848 is a Widescreen Resolution with no option for 4:3 & NO Distortion of the image. Meaning you will get the Full Image on your TV
OR
Set your 360 to 1280x768 & lose a little of the image, but still get a Widescreen Resolution with no 4:3 option. Be mindful also your TV will DOWNSCALE the image from 1280x768 to 1024x768 that's why you'll lose a little from image.
Personally I would go VGA using the 1280x768 option. You will lose a little image, but your picture will look better than 848x480 because the 1st option has more pixels. Hope this is helpful & I apologize if I might have made it confusing. Just trying to help so you can enjoy your gaming experience.Comment

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
thanks. that helps!
I am now being told by people that Component is better than VGA b/c VGA is outdated??Comment

Re: Best cords for HDTV xbox 360 hookup?
Component is an analog signal that is almost exactly the same as a VGA signal (as far as the picture detail is concerned) the main difference is that VGA sends a bit more information via additional wires (for example, component sends the sync command via the green channel, where as VGA sends it via a seperate wire.) For all intents and purposes, a VGA signal (at 1280x720 @60hz) and a component signal at 720p will be pretty much the same.
The main advantages of using the VGA w/the 360 are that you'll see a slightly sharper picture, and it will allow you to utilize the 360's upscaling abilities when playing dvd's.Last edited by coogrfan; 03-22-2007, 01:53 PM.Comment
