Steen, Lundqvist Lead Team Sweden to the Finals

Alexander Steen bats the puck into the goal to give Team Sweden a 2-1 Lead late in the third period

NHL.com -- Alexander Steen scored a baseball goal, Henrik Lundqvist made 36 Saves and both Team USA and Team Sweden went 0/6 on the powerplay in what a spectacular showing from both teams. Carl Soderberg made it 1-0 late in the 1st period when his backhander eluded Jonathan Quick. Team USA would throw everything they could at Henrik Lundqvist, outshooting Team Sweden 19-4 in the 2nd period, but they could not solve The King until Blake Wheeler got his stick on a loose puck. Both teams settled into a defensive style, daring each other to make a mistake. That mistake would come when Loui Eriksson would fire a shot that Quick reacted late for and it popped up into the slot where Alex Steen got his stick on it.

Canada Proves Too Much for Fins

NHL.com -- Finland surprised many by jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the third period with two goals from Mikko Koivu and a breakaway goal by E.Huala, but Team Canada remained calm and quickly pulled even after Drew Doughty scored a powerplay goal and Logan Couture beat Finland to the puck and found Jonathan Toews wide open in the slot. Ryan Getzlaf would score the game winner on a pretty pass from Steven Stamkos, after Stamkos deked Tuuka Rask out of position on a breakaway. Canada Rallies from Slow 1st Period, Take Game 1

Henrik Lundqvist robs Claude Giroux late in the 1st period

NHL.com -- Team Sweden came out of the gates storming and left the ice after one period up 2-0 in front of a heavy Canadian crowd. Henrik Sedin beat Carey Price early in the 1st and Patric Hornqvist added a 5-on-3 Powerplay goal late in the period for a 2-0 Sweden Lead. Captain Canada, Sidney Crosby, would take Team Canada on his back and score two goals, one a short handed goal less than a minute into the 2nd period, and Ryan Getzlaf beat Lundqvist five-hole to bring the Canadian fans to their feet and a 3-2 lead. Joe Thornton pounced on a rebound to make it 4-2, but Forsberg answered and the Swedes had multiple chances to tie, but Canada held on to take Game One of the World Cup

Swedes Powerplay Forces Game Three

Filip Forsberg watches as his shot beats Carey Price

NHL.com -- Powerplay goals from Victor Hedman and Filip Forsberg gave Team Sweden a 3-2 lead late in the third period and Lundqvist made 37 saves to force Game Three. Team Sweden carried over their strong first period play as Nicklas Backstrom scored just 1:26 into the game, but a late powerplay goal from Steven Stamkos prevented the Swedes from going to the locker room with a 1-0 lead. Canada carried the play in the 2nd period and Claude Giroux would get his stick on a rebound to put Canada ahead. Shea Weber went off for hooking and Victor Hedman would score off the ensuing faceoff to tie things, before Forsberg gave the Swedes the lead on the next powerplay.

Re: Reviving the Flyers(NHL17)

FORSBERG'S 2OT WINNER WINS WORLD CUP FOR TEAM SWEDEN!

NHL.COM -- Nashville Predator fans are drooling over the breakout World Cup performance of Filip Forsberg. On the biggest day of the World Cup of Hockey, Forsberg not only scored the Double-Overtime Winner, but he also scored a Hat Trick to finish with 9 Goals in 7 games, he was also tied with Sidney Crosby and Steven Stamkos in points(11). In what started out exactly like Game One did, the two teams went into the 1st overtime. Canada had a 5-on-3 on two separate occasions but Henrik Lundqvist had all the answers. Both teams traded scoring chances and Carey Price was turning aside everything the Swedes threw at him. Late in the 1st OT, Team Canada would go shorthanded as Brad Marchand was called for a slash. Canada managed to hold Sweden off until the intermission, but at 0:45 of the 2OT Daniel Sedin would beat Alex Pietrangelo to a puck and backhand a pass to Forsberg at the Circle and the young sniper did not miss.
