Josh, what exactly do you think needs to be done about playbooks now that you've found the new information out? Leave them and just remove the problem vertical ones?

OK....gameplanning stuff....
  • The "amount of work" needed to implement the game-planning for your CPU opponent each week is minimal. It takes less than 2 minutes. You don't need to control every team, just the one(s) you are playing that week.
  • Regarding your own gameplanning; the XP gained during drills is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things (assuming you have always been simming your drills to a bronze level - which you always should do to be "on par" with the CPU....who will always max-out at Bronze).
  • If you choose your own drills, yes, you can get little boosts for certain play types (potentially allowing you to exploit the CPU more). But bear in mind, that the CPU seems to choose their own drills pretty randomly, though I haven't studied it in detail.
  • For coach schemes: My current recommendation is to enact the gameplanning approach and either a) leave them alone completely or b) just minimize/eliminate the teams running a vertical scheme.
Look...I've got to be honest. The improvement in the CPU play-calling variety from implementing the gameplan tweaks is SO well worth any potential downside. It "levels" the playing field versus the CPU and it adds a lot more complexity during the games.

When we retire the CPU team's coach after advancing week, does the real coach still remain with the team?

Just to make sure I'm 100% clear on this I set the cpu coach to redone def and off 1 week before our game then play my game that week advance and then retire the cpu or can I retire as soon as I set the gameplan?

No......

Take control, advance to the week of your game. Set game plans then retire.

So, say you are using Denver. In week 4 of preseason, you take control of Carolina's coach as Denver plays Carolina in week 1. Advance to week 1, do the game planning stuff for Carolina (and your team). Then, retire that coach before playing the game. After that game is played, take over the coach for Denver's week 2 opponent, advance and repeat the process...

I agree it's worth it. It helped eliminate the 2 biggest CPU play calling quirks that irked me. Tight ends no longer have 12 catches for 200yds every game and the CPU doesn't get screen pass happy when playing from behind in the 4th. I'm seeing a nice amount of various targets. I also set the CPU RB formation subs to get a realistic rotation from them.

Started using these and I'm telling you, the game planning thing is amazing. Completely changes the game, I had a game vs Packers and they almost exclusively threw the ball.
One thing though is so far, it's a bit too easy to stop the CPU running game, and I'm not sure what to do

Just keep playing. Matchups really matter quite a bit so small sample sizes can skew perceptions. I have had games where I shut them down and others where I get gashed...it just depends...

Also, I ran some numbers a while back and if I recall correctly only about a third of NFL games last year featured a 100 yard rusher.
