Let's talk player models

This year madden is touting "best in class" and "the best looking madden ever". And while those both might/probably will be true. Madden does have beautiful textures. I still have a few big problems with the player models.

1: No pad definition/No shoulder pad width

We're at day in age textures are getting near photo realistic. But that doesn't do any good if the player model is poor. Maddens shoulder pads are and have been for a while, poor. Common complaints are. The look like they're molded from clay. Or they're part of the body. I want EA to separate the pads from the body. Actually model the pads.

Here are some examples. When a jersey is pulled over the pads there is clear pad definition. Specially on older pads.

Look at number 20

Madden tried to introduce that detail in 15. When they upgraded the graphics from madden 25. But all it was, was a texture. Not modeled in.

Here is an ingame shot. Looks like a lump

In madden 18 it looks like they got rid of the texture on the pad shelf. But the shoulder pads still look like clay.

Here is a modern player. You can clearly see the pad shelf and definition

Solution: model pads into the game. And give us a slider for pad shelf.

Currently there is only two shoulder pad sliders. Height and width. We need a third to get the flatter, bigger from front to back pads that were used in the 80s and 90s.

NCAA 07 did a great job on shoulder pads. Love this look. Has those big linebacker pad look

Can we please have a slider for shelf width

I couple more examples of pad definition and pad shelf

The horse legs

This has been well documented. I won't add much here.

Small thigh pads

Maddens normal thigh pads are modeled poorly. I realize that pads are getting smaller. But normal should be regular ole thigh pads. Should have an option for newer smaller pads. Some players in college don't even wear them anymore. Not sure if it's a rule in the NFL or not.

I'd like to see an option for thicker thigh pads

Thanks for reading my post. Took a long time to put this together on mobile. Also please excuse grammatical errors and spelling errors.

Re: Let's talk player models

Just in general editing a players equipment is the worst.

If I want to remove the big bulky elbow pads, I have to toggle over for wile until I can find what I am looking for because it is organized by color, stripe, style, and different pads.

I just wish they would give us something similar to what they have now, but broken down easier and incorporating what the OP states.

Head
Helmet
style
Visor
color
brand
Eye Paint
style
Nose Strip
Mouth Guard

style
color
Face Mask
Style

Shoulder Pads
Length
Width
Height

Jersey Sleeves
Size

Under Sleeves
Right Arm
Length
Color
Left Arm
Length
Color

Arm Pads
Style
Location
Color

Arm Bands
Style

Color

Tape
Style

Gloves

Brand

Either way, you get the point. The equipment set up is outdated, and I would like a more streamlined way of editing equipment, especially since I always create/ edit the draft classes post draft.

I think this looks pretty good. But it is on Xbox One X so not sure how it will translate to OG PS4 and One S.

What would be nice is for them of address the following first and foremost on all their player models.
?? Madden player models - buckled knees, 120 degree L-shaped legs, protruding knee.??

Re: Let's talk player models

Lighting makes a tremendous difference. To me, the actual player models seem the same as '17 but the new lighting is so natural and dynamic that it makes the player models look new.

I have to see more footage of course. Still, Madden is impressive graphically and has looked great in still shots for many years now. The problem is once things are in motion, you're reminded that...well...that it's Madden.

At this stage, we should be more wowed by the animation and interaction of the players than anything else, especially when an argument can still be made for games 10-12 years older being better in that aspect.

We get it, you're still mad and upset that 2k no longer can make a game.

You've been given more than enough warnings. Stop bringing it up in almost EVERY thread you comment in.

Let's discuss what's relevant. Not what isn't.
