Will Patch 1 address AI non-blitzing like this?

The occasional ball going through my receiver's body I can almost tolerate, thinking that maybe he just would have dropped the ball anyway. But when it goes through his body and it then is intercepted, well.... That's a little much.

Also, REALLY annoying is when you call a blitz, and your players don't blitz. Once I had a guy in the demo start to blitz, and then instead of plowing the QB, he turns around and follows a HB coming out of the backfield. Ok, well that was the demo I thought...

However, THIS now is the actual retail game. All-Madden difficulty in Franchise mode. I called Quarters Under Smoke, a six man blitz. This is the best angle I could get so you can see what is going on. I am NOT controlling Torrie Cox, the AI is. Watch at the top of the screen as Torrie Cox for my Bucs starts to blitz Romo in the opening game of the season, and has a clear shot at him, only to then turn around and decide he'd rather go and take a look at the backside of my line that is rushing, then turns around yet again and decides he'd rather rush Romo from somewhere on the other side of the line. WTF is he doing? Only EA knows I guess, and I can only hope they know about ridiculous things like this that are still in the game that need to be patched.

It honestly looks like he was literally looking for someone to block him. Near the end of the play, you can see him go to the strong side and engage a blocker, after as you noted leaving a clear lane on the weakside...weird IMO.

That's really amusing (though quite annoying for you).

I've seen some shocking line play/blitzing, but nothing close to that.

Its as if he was destined to hit Cowboy #75.... watch the 75, I dont think he is ready to block on that side, so the Buc goes round to oblige him.

            Weird.

Re: Will Patch 1 address AI non-blitzing like this?

Ok, guys. Let this be a lesson. Instead of just whining about this, I have decided to be pro-active and try to find out why Torrie Cox is not blitzing, and thus try and help the EA developers in fixing this particular issue.

At first I couldn't figure it out. There is no reason for a blitzing player not to blitz on an obvious pass. Then it dawned on me. There is a time when a blitzing player may have to alter his blitz, and that is when there is play action. The play I recorded in my first post however, IS NOT a play action play. However, obviously, Torrie Cox is reacting to something, and I think logically it must be this particular play which somehow has been mis-programmed as a play action pass. What makes this all the more irritating is that there is no one in the backfield on this play!

In the Cowboys playbook, there are nine possible plays that fit this play, which have Romo in Shotgun and no one in the backfield with him, and all are in the Empty Trey set. Of these nine, two have #19 Miles Austin, running a quick route to the left, Curl Flats and Quick Slants. So the play shown must be one of these two out of the Cowboys playbook and IMHO must have been programmed somehow as a play action play in the game. (In practice mode everything runs fine and Torrie Cox blitzes Romo very time.) Either that, or there is something wrong with Quarters Under Smoke in the 46 defensive playbook, or just when used with one of these two plays.

Hope that narrows it down for the EA devs, so they can hopefully find out why Cox is not blitzing in one of those two plays and so they can fix it. My guess again is that a play action variable was somehow programmed into one of these two plays. That's the only reason I can logically see why Cox shouldn't drill Romo.

Another interesting thing I just discovered that I never knew. The offense AI on All-Madden is better than I thought. I knew it ran its plays based on what the defense came out with. But I never knew that it actually hot routed its players to block!

There are only two possible plays in the replay video I show that could be from the Cowboys playbook, and in both plays TE Jason Witten is going out on a pass. Yet in the video you can see, he has clearly stayed in to block! Sneaky All-Madden AI... I never knew it hot routed its players to block to counter my blitzes. No wonder I can hardly ever get to the AI QB!

Anyway, hope those patches are coming soon. And how about a patch to give us an option whether or not to allow the computer AI to hot route block for itself?
