Serious question: I feel like one of the past gen versions had a decent amount of calls but maybe I'm wrong.

I think last gen Maddens got DPI right but it is hard for me to remember because I only played Madden occasionally after 2000.
I definitely remember being cautious about User pass defense in Madden and Bill Walsh on the Sega Genesis though.Comment

None from what I remember, however, it got called more frequently in the last gen games in comparison to the Maddens this gen.
Really hoping that they improve on it. Has anything been said yet about penalties?Comment

Yeah, I think if you slowed your guy down last gen it would be called more as well but not by much.

In order for PI to get called, you have to actively run into a player. So if you take your DB, get him in front of the WR, and just let go of the sticks, you won't get called.Comment

Don't know if it has been possible to accurately call PI as ball tracking hasnt been in the game untill recently and a lot of actual PI calls in the NFL are a result of deffenders not getting there head around to play the ball.@HFIELDS33

I still play Madden 05/06 on the PS2. Although Madden 05 is glitched in that PI is never called unless you literally tackle the receiver going for the ball, in 06 it does get called for both CPU and human controlled players. Anywhere from 1-3 a game.
For example if a receiver is running a out-in route and the defender makes contact while the ball is being thrown, more often than not PI is called. In fact I've gotten offensive pass interference called in this game believe it or not. The receiver was going for a ball thrown high and he cleared his arms towards the defender and ref called offensive PI.

My theory is that if the defender isn't making a direct stride towards the defender and actively alters the course of the WR (that is, pressing the stick), then the game considers the defender as entitled to his space. And in a way, the game is right. If a WR just runs into a defender who is standing there, that's not PI. Of course, that's not the reality of PI in Madden either.
One issue is simply that the CPU is never willing to take a PI, or display desperation when beat. They're more willing to just get beat.Comment
