Problems with Intercepting

Does anyone else have a problem with pressing the ball hawk (Y Button or Triangle button) and having it not work at all?

I know it's not the controllers, but sometimes I'll be going to try and intercept the ball and I press it and nothing happens. I've done the press and hold and also the quick press, but both times it doesn't seem to work. It's weird, because other times I haven't had a problem picking off a pass.

Any thoughts, similarities, etc?

It happens quite a bit when I'm playing, hence I've stopped playing the game. I'll press the "Y" button to make a pick or at least swat the ball and my defender will just stand there doing nothing. Very frustrating. I've gone back to Madden 10 and 12 , although with 12 I have to turn the announcers off, Gus Johnson is the worst.

I think it happens when Madden predetermines that the defender will miss the pick/swat. Instead of giving you an animation like it should....it just fails to react at all.

I don't think Y / Triangle ever goes for a deflection anymore; it seems that only tries an interception, in my experience anyway.

Ball Hawk can be done with the deflect pass control input, however, that being LB / L1. It's a low-risk, low-reward play compared to going for the INT.

FWIW, you must be controlling the player you wish to have deflect / intercept the pass via Ball Hawk. Ball Hawk is always executed with holding down the appropriate button. It could also be affected by the defender's Play Ball In Air DPP trait - and that would make some sense - but I don't know if that is in-fact true.

my problem is now everytime i hit the triangle button it seems my defenders have bricks for hands they will jump up once i switch to them but they wont even swat. its more like they hit ball up in the air sorta like a volley ball hit dont know what happen maybe ea dumbed down the ints since alot of ppl were complaining to many were happening.

couldn't get picks before for the life of me.

then i realized i was tapping the button and not holding it. made all the difference.

go to practice mode, run the same deep play over and over and you play as a safety and practice. helped me tons.

now, i have no complaints. sometimes they drop the ball (mostly actually but they always make the attempt).

I got screwed again with the stupid button not working. The CPU threw it to their WR in the corner of the endzone, I switched to my CB and pressed the Y button to try and intercept. Well, apparently he was tired or mad at me cause he didn't do crap except stand there and watch it fly over his head and into the WR's hands for a TD. WTF.....

Yes

And the reason is that put in a feature that is supposed to give you the best animation (and it actually will move your player for you)...

The reason that this is a horrible feature is

1) It takes user skills away from defense.........Remember the last gen DB Swat Drills? I do, I went back and played it all last week. I will give anybody $100 if they can play it on All Madden and score 1000pts on their first try.....The reason I would be willing to do that it because it wont happen lol...

These current gen maddens have been dwindling down people stick skills year by year and they finally found a way to destroy defensive user coverage skills without having the entire world erupt.

Remember playing a real game last gen? You actually felt like you did something when you got a swat....A freaking swat man. Think about the way things are now. How do you feel when you get an interception or a swat?

2) (my theory only) By them "picking" my animation it slows down the games processing.

Think about this......in years before I hit "Y/triangle" and the game gave me the animation available

NOW....I have to hit/hold "Y/triangle' and the game doesnt give me what is there...It goes and finds me the best animation possible. Moving my player if need be.

Ball hawk works great on deep throws...........Sucks rocks on anything under 7yds and its 50/50 if you will get an animation (at least it is for me)
A whole lot more is going on now than then.....Just my theory, idk how legit it is.
