    Potential- can someone explain?

Can someone help me out...I just downloaded the SCEA June 27 roster (sorry Knight, I just wanted to try their update, my OSFM franny is still going) ...

I notice Dustin Ackley is D potential with D contact and D power and D speed...the dudes batting .300 his first 30 AB's and was a No.2 overall pick.

Does that mean if I play with Ackley in my M's franchise he's never gonna be past a D overall?

Basically what does the potential DO in game? Because his speed is a D too... I think they use a different scale than what I think a "D" would be

I would like to know more about potential, also.

Whoever is in charge of the attributes and potentials, seems to have no idea what they are doing when they create players. Unless they are using their "three year weighted average", it seems like they have no idea how to rate a player. Even then, players are not properly rated most of the time. Check out all of the other rookies. From what I hear, they're just as poorly created.

Potential is as good as a player will get. He won't be better than a D overall unless his potential changes. Potential can change up to 2 letter grades during a player's career.I think the potentials SCEA assigns are random in their updates, and they will change if you download the roster again, not sure though.

Yeah, I think you might be right... I edited some of his ratings, and the potential went up- but I think I re downloaded the roster...

So does that mean I shouldn't cut the people with F potential?

          Re: Potential- can someone explain?

Just a tip from what I noticed with the SCEA Weekly rosters, most MLB players potentials are consistent (but some do change, mainly for the lower overall younger aged players). As for when rookies are added into the game, their potential spans from their current overall to max potential.

I remember being upset in MLB 08 I think when Justin Upton, Chase Headley and others would be given C's, but I soon realized that the potential ratings are pretty much randomly generated. As for your last question, while a player's potential can change, F-potential prospects have a lot going against them. I'd cut bait or keep them as minor league fodder.

Personnally I don't think SCEA are that far off. I've reviewed one by one to integrate the rookies mostly in my own version of OSFM2.

Don't take my Overall % for cash. I used a ruler to compare overall red bars :-)

Those make sense to me :
            Sean Burroughs ARZ OSFM=55% pot A SCEA=65% pot D
            Brian Dinkelman MIN OSFM=58% pot D SCEA=69% pot C
            Wyatt Toregas PIT OSFM=63% pot F SCEA=65% pot A
            Tony Watson PIT OSFM=70% pot C SCEA=70% pot B
            Carlos Peguero SEA OSFM=65% pot C SCEA=77% pot B

Those where rated lower with higher potential in OSFM. With SCEA, their overall was boosted but their potential adjusted so they don't become superstars :
            Maikel Cleto STL OSFM=58% pot C SCEA=74% pot F
            Ryan Matheus STL OSFM=62% pot D SCEA=73% pot F
            Robinson Cancel HOU OSFM=58% pot A SCEA=72% pot D

I know some seems to be way off ( Moustakas is one of them) I don't feel they are disconnect from reality. What do you think ?

I think if I knew what the game was trying to tell me, it'd be more fun, LOL

You can import another player's potential over a generated player's potential. It's not editing, but it's the next best thing.
