Anyone play on maxed out pitch speed slider?

From what others told me, putting this slider all the way would be the most realistic. For example a 95 mph fastball would come in at the same time as a 95 mph fastball in real life. I think with it on default a 95 mph fastball=85-87 mph in real life.

I played a game with it on and it isn't too bad. I faced Josh Johnson and his changeup...was actually like a real changeup and it felt a lot more authentic. It is going to suck facing guys that throw over 97 or facing guys with good off speed pitches, but so far I like the challenge. I was on AS hitting with zone too.

    Hell no.

I don't even play with pitch speed at default level, I have to lower it a bit.

I would put up Adam Dunn strikeout numbers for every player If I played at pitch speed maxed out.

Re: Anyone play on maxed out pitch speed slider?

I did play with Pitch Speed max for a significant fraction of my RTTS time last year. Oh my now looking back I don't know how I even did it, but I actually managed to hit in .270 - .280 range in AA/AAA (didn't continue after that).

I thought I was gonna do it for my franchise as well, but it's just too hard to balance BB/K ratio, so for franchise I lowered it to play more "sim."

But I enjoyed that challenge... I felt really rewarded for having solid hits. It's a bit too tough to turn to high fastballs with Pure Analog (button hitting would probably be more pleasant), but when you are not rushing to advance to majors but are willing to take time (even playing with "results play" or even "all pitches") playing each game, each at bat... That gives you authentic feel of how difficult hitting really is.

I drew quite a few walks, only stuck out a few times, and even had 1 HR. I might stick with it. Plus it makes it feel easy when you play online. Someone brings in a 100 mph fastball guy and you just laugh.

Swinging a bat and moving a left stick and swinging (zone hitting) are 2 completely different things. I don't think it's possible to hit (well) using zone hitting if you have real world pitch speeds. Hitters read stuff like rotation on the ball that you just can't do in video game baseball.

Not to mention that the "lock" on zone hitting makes it arguably harder to keep up than in real life since your allowance for reaction time is wayy smaller.

Yeah, so I would actually use Timing if I were use max Pitch Speed again... too bad there's no "analog" to Timing with the analog interfaces... Zone type stuff would be just too hard, unless you move PCI pre-pitch to just wait for a pitch to come there.

I have the pitch speed maxed out and I use zone hitting. In my road to the show I am hitting like .320. I love it, I had a lot of trouble adjusting to the speed at first, but I've gotten a lot better. Although a good curve or changeup will get me big time from time to time.

Re: Anyone play on maxed out pitch speed slider?

LOL. My reflexes arent what they used to be. I tried keeping it at default for a while, but i was tired of striking out and being late on every fastball and not having time to recognize offspeed pitches. I turned it down a few clicks to the left.

I know this isnt the most realistic, however, neither is having a major league team register most of their outs in the game via strikeout nearly every game. You can still get fastballs blown by you if you turn it down.

I play with it at 8. I wanted to simulate real life as a hitter. I did the math one time on how much reaction time a hitter has on a 99-100mph fastball. Then I went into the game and used a stopwatch while pitching to see how long it took the ball to get to the plate. I found that pitch speed at 8 was right on.

                      Heck no.

There's a reason I'm playing video game baseball and not real baseball.

Yup I found this true as well, but on a SD TV I bump it up to 10, the break and speed feel much more authentic to me; I hate waiting on offspeed pitches, I just don't have the patience. Having pitch speed so high forces me to sit on fastballs and lay off anything with a wrinkle in hitter's counts which is exactly the approach you would want to have in real life.

Maybe I'll give 8 a try then. I thought someone told me 10 was the most realistic though. Also you have to account for human error when manually timing it. .01 seconds can mean the difference between a 93 mph fastball and a 95+.

This has been mentioned perhaps elsewhere but what nemesis got from the devs:

                            http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2043287950

This is from MLB 11 but I also measured pitch speed in game:

                            http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2042332585

I think if you go by those info, then maxed out Pitch Speed slider probably don't exactly bring it up to the real life speed. But it's probably good enough.

Now if you start considering input lag with TV, etc., then that would be another story....

Do the sliders automatically adjust based on level or is that a whole another modifier? For example if I play on rookie with PS on 10 is that the same as Legend on 10?

I usually play on AS or HOF for hitting, but if I have them both on 10 will it be the same?
