Is the Ps3 supposed to still access data of the disc with the 10gb install?

My old PS3 slim died so I bought a new one and did the 10gb install but I can hear the ps3 accessing off the disc while playing a game and it is really loud. I don't remember hearing it while playing The Show 12 on my old one so my disc drive is either louder or it didn't get installed properly.

    Thoughts?

The game is a lot larger than 10 GB...

This. The 10gb install decreases load times significantly, but it certainly doesn't load the entire game onto your system.

with the new slim ps3, prepare to hear:
        1. louder processing
        2. strange pop/crackle sounds
        3. sudden millisecond stop of gameplay while ps3 reads data periodically

        with the mlb12 10gb install:
        1. expect the game to still access the disc as needed
        2. expect non-existent load times (very noticeable difference from '11)

the above is what i've experienced. now back to the game...take care.
