Can someone please explain why my game settings are locked

I'm just starting to play MLB The Show 18, it is the first time I have played any PS4 games. I'm trying to set the options for my game playing and when I try to set the pitching interface it is locked on meter.

Once I solve this issue I need to learn how to save the settings to my profile so when I play a game the settings will stay the same unless I change them.

In a previous post I replied to I was told that when in the game mode you should be able to scroll to your profile and the settings would load. I can't select a profile all I have is beginner and experienced when I scroll.

when I select the settings I want besides some being lock I don't even know how to save them to my profile. when I set the options it asked if I want to apply changes and I assume that is saving them, correct?


I'd love to be able to play with the settings I want, so to do that I need to unlock the pulse meter. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks that makes sense, do you know how I can unlock an option. I don't want meter in pitching but there is a lock next to it so I can't change it?

There is a lock next to meter pitching? There should be a lock next to "Pulse Meter Display" unless you change your pitching interface to Pulse.

What interface do you want to use?

Yes I am sorry it is Plus meter, I changed to this thread because I can now start my own thread and didn't want to use the other thread for my learning when it isn't franchise mode questions.

I want to start out with classic while I learn the game and then I want to switch to analog in case I decide to play online.

If you want to use Classic, scroll to Classic under Pitching Interface.

The Pulse Meter Display will automatically be locked, since you won't need that while using Classic. So no need to worry about that lock.

Thanks, I think I got it so now I can start to learn the game. At first, I want to focus on pitching and hitting so I saved a profile with those settings and need it "hit pitch only"

Now I can scroll and it is available to me. The mistake I was making was setting the options and when it asked if I wanted to apply changes I said "Yes" now that I set the options and backed out and went to save changes and created a new one.

I hope it is OK to keep using this thread to ask different basic questions as I learn how to play MLB The Show 18, rather than starting several threads for each question. If it should be done differently please let me know I and I will.

At the Play Now section there are 2 sides which have different teams to chose from but It seems limited. I am sure it is due to my lack of knowledge of this game.

For example, I have the Cubs as the away team and the Braves as the home team. if I scroll on each side I can't find the teams I want and when using the "R-1 or 2" or the L1 or L2 controls it changes leagues or "Farm teams" but I can seem to find out how to select the team I want to play each other. I'd like to have Boston play NY Yankees but can't seem to navigate to those teams.

I would appreciate any help.

When just picking 2 teams with current rosters to play, a window opens with the line-up, I noticed the locks is that how you pick your line-up?
I tried but couldn't pick the pitcher. I also noticed that during the game the same hitters kept coming up, I assume that is because I had them locked into the line-up???

Are you referring to Player Locks at the bottom of the screen? If you use R2 on a certain player, a red target will show up next to the player and it will make you only control that player during the game. So that is probably the reason you see the same hitter over and over.

If you want to play a full game, dont player lock (R2) anyone on the lineup or pitcher screens before the game. (You can go to Substitutions if still inside the game after it starts and use R2 to unselect that player.)

Are you referring to Player Locks at the bottom of the screen? If you use R2 on a certain player, a red target will show up next to the player and it will make you only control that player during the game. So that is probably the reason you see the same hitter over and over.

I thought your explanation about the locked players in the rotation when I am setting up for a game between 2 teams made sense but Now I see stars on the left of some players and for the life of me I can figure out what that means and there are not 9 stars thus I don't have 9 positions filled.

Once again I can't change the pitchers nor can I select a 9 position lineup. I am sure it is something very simple that I just haven't seen or figured out. If I can get past this last part I will be able to play a game with a full roster. I guess I should ask this question also, once if get a full lineup do I make position changes with the D-pad like I do for the bullpen or mount visit.

Trust me slowly but surely I am picking up on these things but still stuck at the lineups. and selecting the starting pitcher.

Any help is much appreciated.
