MVP 2005 for the PC. Does the game cheat?

Years ago in the NHL series there was speculation that the CPU cheated. The speculation was that once the user had gained an advantage, the program would boost the stats of the cpu players who would catch up and often win the game, no matter how well the user played.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is the case with MVP. I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm dead wrong here, since I am still pretty new at the game. But it seems every time I get a two run lead or better, the cpu team comes charging back to even up and then beat my score.

    Anyone else having these issues?

Im not so sure on a game by game basis but i have my suspicions over the long haul. I started out 0-13 (simply couldnt hit) my pitching was awesome all year. It got to a point where made pitching much more difficult for myself but still kept dominating hitters. I ended up having the best record in baseball by the allstar game. Since the allstar game, my pitching has been horrible. Oswalt is the only guy who has won a game for me, i am 1-10. It just seems like the CPU hitters and simply mashing anything i throw up there all of a sudden

I've always thought every EA sports game has always had a "cheat factor". I can't begin to tell you the # of controllers I broke playing Madden 2004 because the AI would do something to comeback and win the game.

I don't think there is a comeback/cheat code programmed in. What there is is player happiness and coaching staff. These two things can help orchestrate comebacks. Just like in real baseball, you can ride momentum big-time in baseball...especially if you can get the pitcher rattled while he is already tired.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. That happens to teams alot in real life. In my latest franchise I started out 8-0 with the Brewers, and was batting around .350 as a team. I then went on to lose 7 of my next 10, dropping my team batting average to around .260. If you follow real life baseball, you should know that teams go through streaks, both hot and cold.

I would actually say there is and maybe even more when playing in rivalries. I manged to get swept in Boston on 3 walk off losses in a row with the yankees.

yeah but the question is, what is causing it. Is it just a streak or is the game designed to bring teams back to the pack

Re: MVP 2005 for the PC. Does the game cheat?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was hoping that the responses would be something like this: "its all in your mind." I just finished a game playing as Boston against Baltimore. Schilling was pitching and lasted until the 8th inning. Holding a 2 to 1 lead. I brought in my setup pitcher who gave up a run in the 8th. I then brought in the reliever who gave up 2 runs and lost it in the ninth inning 3 to 2. ACK!

I know it happens in real life. And I also know that these other two pitchers were not as good as Schilling. In fact, I could see it very clearly with their lack of control and lack of movement on the ball. So the loss was justified. As well, the problem could be in my management. I maybe holding onto pitchers too long. So I will experiment with that too.

I really dont want this game to cheat....if it learns my pitching habits and adjusts, thats fine....but cheating would ruin the game for me. Just my 2 cents worth

A few times, not often, I would be up by 4-5 runs, the the CPU comes back on unhittable pitches. Sinkers in the dirt, no matter what I pitch its a home run or a base hit. I change pitchers and it still happens. Then when I go up to bat, I cannot put the bat on the ball.
