I recently figured out/got guidance (finally) on how to install the latest Classics version without getting an error msg saying this was not a valid mvp2005 folder and without it crashing to desktop. I now want to install patch #3 to this folder, but I don't think that it allows you to point to a given folder, it only assumes you have one version of mvp2005 installed. Any ideas how I can point this patch to my Classics folder? Maybe this involves edited a subkey in the registry?

The Classics mod or the 06 mod doesn't do anything to the exe like the EA patches do right? I'm asking because, if you have another computer available on a home network, like a laptop, you could try installing MVP from the disc and then install the patches on that second computer. When that is done, move that mvp exe to the computer you really play on. I'm not sure if that works or not, I just saw someone mention it before and thought it was a pretty slick idea.

Ya, but if a patch alters files other than the .exe file, I don't see how that would work. Maybe, assuming an auto patch would know what default folder to look in (i.e., EASPORTS main folder) for a given game folder and its' own subfolders, maybe I can temporarily move the other folders to the desktop, run the patch, and see what happens.Comment

If I remember correctly you have to install EA Patch 3 (or 5) before you install any mods. I could be wrong though.

Re: Pointing a patch to an additional (PC) install
Well, when I tried to apply the Total Classics 5 install to a copy of the mvp2005 folder (renamed it TC5), I got the dreaded, "this is not a valid mvp2005 folder". I removed the registry key for mvp2005 since the disk was not allowing me to do a fresh install (as suggested over at mvpmods.com). I assume the registry key told it that it was already installed and was only allowing me to run the game from disk 1. The installer was then okay with that TC5 folder. I screwed up and did not remove the fresh mvp2005 main folder install before I ran the patch#3. I think it patched both of these versions.
I think you're correct though. You should patch before you mod. Patches 4 & 5 I heard are unnecessary as they are roster updates and now both out of date. Patch 3 (which I assume incorporates what was updated in the previous 2 patches) is for stuttering fixes and the like. There's also a new datafile on mvpmods I'm dying to try later. And if anything, the grass changer mod is a must. The aluminum default grass must have been purchased through the same dealer who sells Festivus trees!!
