You know the overall rating doesn't mean anything right? It's the individual attributes that mean something. There's no point in getting up in arms that somebody is rated 1 pt higher than somebody else without even seeing what they play like in the game

Unfortunately, it does still matter for people who play MyLeague/MyGM.

I play MyLeague. What does it affect other than contracts?

Just one thing is enough. But other than what you said...rotations, trade scenarios.

Do we know that overalls affect trades/player value? Did a 2k dev say that? I was under the impression that player value is derived from individual attributes (along with badges, potential, age, etc)

We definitely know overall is a crucial part of how player progression is determined. That's exactly what Potential is, what's the max overall a player can achieve.

the problem IS how they play in the game. As I noted overall impacts trade logic, rotations, free agent signings, and contracts. Therefore 2k tries to inflate overalls so that players can get a fair market value in the game. Therefore on the court, you see players who are too quick, too strong, etc. so that they get on the court in the first place (rotations), get signed for a fair contract, get traded for fair value, and get signed in the first place

Re: Meet the man behind the NBA 2K18 ratings...

its very hard to do this job i rated every player on 2k16 on ps3 and was OCD about it

i was gonna do it for 2k17 Ps4 but all the new ratings kinda threw me for a loop

i think 90% of guys are too high but i understand why he does it if i ran the 2k ratings system rem Nba Live 2004 that how i would do it basic the only 90+ ratings u wouild have is the Lebron Jordan Birds Currys and instead of 68 being the 12 13 man 68 in my system wouild be a Starter or role player
