How do the attributes get calculated for All Time players?

For some players like MJ it’s clearly simply his ‘96 attributes. But for other players it seems to be that they take the best possible attributes for players in each category of their entire careers and mash them into one player. Some all time players have clearly far unrealistic attributes that are far better than any specific time in their real life careers.

Is there a rhyme or reason to this?

Definitely the right answer. I don’t even consider all time players to be “real.” I only consider year models of each player to be based on any form of reality. Of course some legend players are only available on all time teams.

I don't know if I could even call most of the historic team's rosters accurate.



So many of the classic teams have players that are just way too slow to see an NBA court. Like, you're telling me the worst teams in the NBA in 2021 are just that much more athletic & physically superior than some 70's, 80's, 90's teams? The '86 Celtics are an absolute joke to play with since their entire roster doesn't have speed above 50! The '98 Jazz and '03 Mavericks feel incredibly slow compared to modern day counterparts.

That's because old school teams does not receive the same amount of love or attention that the current teams receive. We really need someone from the development team to have a true passion for the history of the game. As we do a summer league carrying out a fantasy draft with all players in the game each june I can tell you: Many ratings are just......I don't know how they got them.... You've got a guy like Bingo Smith who hit 23 career three pointers (yes I know, 3pt line was only existing in two of his seasons) on 28 %, yet in the game they gave him a 87 3pt rating.... You find such stuff all the time.

In 2019 season

Only 21 players played 82. 143 players played 72 or more games. So this has been issue before the pandemic took place.

We literally just had a regular season with 72 games in 4 months after the shortest off-season in history.

A shortened 2020 season with months off and a shortened 2021 season. MJ did 82 every year THEN the finals without today’s spoiled conditions and then did the Dream Team then came back and won rings in the following years.

Modern players get way more injured even before the pandemic. I have no idea how since the game is more a glorified three point contest and as non physical as it gets. Compounded with taking nights off and “load management” bs.

Soft breeds soft. Soft mentalities, royally rich and pampered, not conditioning with the same war like mentality of previous eras.

"Because I had it hard, other people should also suffer" is one of the world's dumbest arguments.

The League and it's Teams are OKAY with players missing games. They care more about protecting their investments long-term (players make ACTUAL money now, as opposed to the era you speak of where they were used and discarded the moment they couldn't perform). As a result, players are having longer careers than ever despite "missing a handful more games".

Chris Paul just made his first Finals at age 36. 30 years ago he would have been coaching by now because he would have ran himself into the ground. Careers routinely ended at 29-31 because players "toughed out" things they shouldn't have. As recently as the mid-2000s we routinely had All-Stars like Michael Redd and Allan Houston medically retired on big money deadweight contracts. You know how many players exist like that in the league today? ZERO.
