CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

After watching some great games in the NBA Playoffs, I got juiced up to play some 2K9 again. I've always been a cpu vs. cpu fan, so I tried out some of the roster/slider combinations on this site. While most of them played out pretty well, I wasn't quite satisfied with how they played for cpu vs. cpu. So I did some tinkering, and I think I've come up with a set that gives pretty realistic results statistically, but also more importantly, is fun and exciting to watch.

Some things to note: The most annoying thing of watching cpu vs. cpu in 2K9 was the unrealistic amount of backdoor passing. To counteract this, I've bumped up a lot of the defensive sliders as well as strength and quickness, which has greatly reduced this problem. I also bumped up mid range and 3pt shot success to make sure that FG% did not suffer from this slider adjustment. To make each team play uniquely, I also adjust the Close, Mid-Range, 3PT, Attack the Basket, and Look for Post Players tendencies each game to match the coach profile for the teams playing. This has made each game play out a little differently, and brings out each team's style of play a little more.

These are using the official 2k9 rosters and coach profiles:

    Gameplay:
    Difficulty - Pro
    Game Speed - 49
    11 Min Quarters

    Fouls:
    Charging - 90
    Blocking - 95
    Reaching - 40
    Shooting - 55
    Loose Ball - 100

    Sliders:
    Close Shot Success - 40/40
    Mid-Range Success - 55/55
    3PT Success - 60/60
    Layup Success - 40/40
    Dunk Success - 45/45
    Dunks in Traffic - 100/100
    Screen Success - 100/100

    Steal Success - 45/45
    Help Defense Strength - 80/80

    Stealing - 45/45
    Blocking - 80/80
    Ball Handling - 50/50
    Offensive Awareness - 5/5
    Defensive Awareness - 90/90
    Offensive Rebounding - 0/0
    Defensive Rebounding - 0/0
    Clutch Factor - 0/0
    Speed - 49/49
    Strength - 100/100
    Stamina - 40/40
    Durability - 50/50
    Vertical - 25/25
    Quickness - 80/80
    Hustle - 50/50
    Hands - 45/45
    On Ball Defense - 80/80
    Injury Severity - 50/50

Tendencies: As stated earlier, Close, Mid-Range, 3Pt, Attack the Basket, and Look for Post Players are based upon the coach profile. To do this, simply change the "Home" tendency sliders to match the home teams coach's sliders, and change the "Away" tendency sliders to match the away teams coach's sliders. In order for it to be Home/Away rather than User/CPU in the slider screen, the controller must be in the middle in the "Choose Side Screen"

Take Close Shots- Match Coach Slider for "Take Close Shots"
Take Mid-Range Shots - Match Coach Slider for "Take Mid-Range Shots"
Take 3PT Shots - Match Coach Slider for "Take 3PT Shots"
Attack the Basket - Match Coach Slider for "Attack the Basket"
    Finish Strong Inside - 50/50
Look for Post Players - Match Coach Slider for "Take Close Shots"
    Use Triple Threat - 65/65
    Use Fadeaways - 65/65
    Use Hookshots - 50/50
    Attempts Putbacks - 5/5
    Throws Flashy Passes - 5/5
    Commit Fouls - 20/20
    Play Passing Lanes - 55/55
    Go For On-Ball Steals - 55/55
    Contest Shots - 50/50
    Use Sizeup Moves - 65/65

I've been getting some really good games with these so please give them a try and let me know what you think. I'm welcome to any suggestions to improve them even more. As I know people also like to see stats with sliders to validate them, I'll be sure to post some stats as I play some more games with these.

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

I'm currently using these sliders in Year 2 of my New Jersey Nets franchise. Here were the stats of a recent game vs. the Hornets:

    Hornets / Nets

    Score - 83/101
    FGs - 31/77 (40%) / 36/73 (49%)
    3PT - 8/13 (61%) / 10/25 (40%)
    FT - 13/24 (54%) / 19/22 (86%)
    Assists - 24/27
    TOs - 11/8
    Fouls - 11/13
    Rebounds - 36/32
    O Rebounds - 7/7
    Steals - 6/10
    Blocks - 2/14
    PITP - 20/34
    Second Chance Points - 4/4
    Fast Break Points - 2/8

This was a fun one to watch. My Nets caught fire and torched the Hornets in the 2nd quarter with 37 points, hitting 5 threes during the quarter. Vince Carter led my team in scoring with 18 points on 6-15 shooting. Devin Harris put up 13 points and 10 assists. Brooke Lopez was a beast down low, with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 blocks. Chris Paul had a solid night, with 18, 3, and 8. The Hornets were able to cut the lead to 8 in the 4th quarter after James Posey poured in 8 straight points in the span of a minute. However a couple of Hornets turnovers and a couple big shots by the Nets put the game out of reach.

I'll post some more results as I play some more games

These work beautifully. I am running them on 12 minute quarters and getting very realistic results. Thank you.

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

Just watched another game, Nets vs. Pistons. Here were the stats:

          Nets / Pistons

          Score - 68 / 79
          FG - 25/72 (34%) / 27/61 (44%)
          3PT - 5/15 (33%) / 5/10 (50%)
          FT - 13/20 (65%) / 20/25 (80%)
          Assists - 18 / 20
          TOs - 9 / 10
          Fouls - 14 / 10
          Rebounds - 33 / 33
          O. Rebounds - 8 / 1
          Steals - 6 / 6
          Blocks - 7 / 8
          PITP - 28 / 22
          Bench Points - 13 / 28
          Second Chance Points - 4 / 4
          Fast Break Points - 5 / 8

The Pistons slow paced, defensive style of play won out in this game. Rodney Stuckey led all scorers with 18, A.I. put up 15, 3, and 6. Vince Carter led the Nets with 16 points, but struggled going 6-18 from the field. The defense just about shut my entire team down, but still a fun game to watch

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

Here we go. These are two Association games. I have my own created player on the Sixers who is a 99 in everything (but a 5'9" PG lol) which skews it a little bit but still came out quite realistic I think. I exited out of the games, so only the box score is available, meaning that pitp and fast break stats aren't available.

            Game 1:

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

Phillyphan, looks like you're getting some solid results! Unfortunately my Nets didn't make the playoffs (I've missed the playoffs both years in my franchise so far), but I like to watch any game 7s in the playoffs. I just watched another great game, game 7 in the second round of the eastern conference semi finals. Here were the stats

              Hawks vs. Magic

              Score - 85 / 96
              FG - 32/71 (45%) / 36/74 (48%)
              3PT - 3/8 (37%) / 11/19 (57%)
              FT - 18/26 (69%) / 13/18 (72%)
              Assists - 22 / 23
              TOs - 8 / 8
              Fouls - 9 / 13
              Rebounds - 36 / 39
              O Rebounds - 6 / 5
              Steals - 7 / 7
              Blocks - 5 / 5
              PITP - 40 / 36
              Bench - 16 / 16
              Second Chance - 8 / 10
              Fast Break - 10 / 2

Pretty even at half time, but a great defensive 3rd quarter for the Magic gave them the edge, as they held the Hawks to just 14 points. The Hawks made a late rally in the 4th quarter cutting it as low as 8, but a crucial missed layup by Joe Johnson followed by a dagger 3 by Jameer Nelson sealed the deal.

It was awesome watching Dwight Howard, he was an absolute beast. He backed guys down all night throwing down dunks with authority. His stat line was 21, 16, 3, 3, and 2. All 5 Magic starters were in double figures scoring. The Hawks leading scorer was free agent acquisition Ben Gordon, who put up 21 on 9-13 shooting. Josh Smith also had an impressive stat line of 12, 9, 4, 3, and 2. Overall, great game to watch.

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

here is my first game with these sliders: Bulls 95 grizzlies 89

                  FG% bulls 44 grizzlies 46
                  3pt fg bulls 3/9 grizzlies 1/6
free throw bulls 22/30 grizzlies 16/21
                  steals bulls 6 grizzlies 3
                  blocks bulls 6 grizzlies 11
fast break points bulls 4 grizzlies 6

overall, not a bad game, stats are pretty realistic for the most part. there should have been more 3pt attempts, and more fast break points, but I will leave all sliders alone for at least the next four games and see what happens. BTW, this was with 11 min quarters.

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

                    Magic 122 Bulls 117

                    fg % magic 49 bulls 51
                    3pt fg magic 19/28 bulls 6/12
Free throws magic 19/24 bulls 27/30
                    steals magic 9 bulls 4
                    blocks magic 4 bulls 4

highlights: Blake griffin (I created him for bulls LOL) scored 38 with 11 rebs 16/18 ft.
                    C. Lee (magic) 44 pts on 14/21 from the field 10/13 3ptrs
                    D. Howard 14 pts 11 rebs
                    J. Nelson 20 assists

not bad, but 3pts were really out of wack, compared to last game. D. Rose is out for the bulls, so that may have made a difference in this game...

johnriii, glad to see you're trying out the sliders! Ya I've noticed there are some games where teams absolutely light it up from 3. While its not that unrealistic to see the Magic jack up 28 threes in a game and make 19 of them, Courtney Lee going 10-13 from 3 seems highly unlikely. You can adjust 3pt success down to 59 or 58 if you are getting games where the CPU consistently shoots a very high percentage from 3pt. Look forward to seeing the results of some more games, hope that helps!

haven't run a game since that last one. will be doing several after I get home from church this afternoon. I may need to adjust the coaching profiles, due to the fact that I think orlando did this to me before in another "association" game several months ago too...also, I may take your advice to lower the percentage, but the frequency seems higher than normal too...i will probably run one more game on the original settings just to get a three game average

                          Bulls 95 cavs 111
                          FG% bulls 45 cavs 46
                          3pt% bulls 30 (3/10) cavs 46 (12/26)
                          FG% bulls 81 (18/22) cavs 63 (21/33)
                          steals bulls 9 cavs 13
                          blocks bulls 7 cavs 7

                          highlights
                          L. Hughes bulls 27 pts....only bulls player over 20, everyone else was 15 and under.
                          M. williams 27 pts 9assists 5/8 3ptrs; L. James 27pts 10 reb 3-7 3ptrs

this games seemed more realistic than the last one, but I think I will still lower the 3pt slider a bit. the bulls have three key players injured; Rose, gordon, and deng, so this was pretty true to form...there were three bulls with 15 points, hinrich, Blake Griffin, and thomas, and thomas also had 4 of the 7 blocked shots. when hinrich was on the bench, the bulls fell way behind, due to the fact that there is no other true point guard. all in all, I'm pleased with the results of these sliders...I will probably start another franchise after these get to where I want them, but the injuries are killing my team right now. three major injuries in the first three games is a bit out there.....

Re: CPU vs CPU sliders - Give these a try

ran another game before this one, but didn't post stats...I think the sliders are pretty much set, may need to lower 3pt frequency

                            cavs 120 bulls 115 (ot)
                            fg% cavs 46 bulls 45
                            3pt% cavs 53 (14/26) bulls 40% (6/15)
                            ft% cavs 73 (14/19) bulls 86 (31/36)

this game was almost just like an NBA game...neither team could pull away from the other, and it went back and forth the whole game. the bulls actually had a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter, then Lebron went nuts, hitting everything he threw up, blocking shots, and steals...he was 3/3 from three in the quarter.

                            scoring highlights Cavs L. James 35 pts 7 rebs, 9 asst 3-3 3ptrs, W. szcerbiak 24 pts 3-8 3ptrs, T. kinsey 19pts, Illgauskas, 12 pts, 12 reb

bulls B. Griffin 34 pts 12reb..hinrich 23 pts, 11 asst, 3-6 3ptrs...L. hughes 22 pts 9-12 from the field, mostly fast break points.

I think I will change the 3pt frequency slider and see what happens, even though the scores are relatively realistic, maybe increasing midrange slider and lower 3pt will balance it out. I'll try tomorrow.....peace

                              LOL...tomorrow came today.
                              bulls 94 hawks 73

                              fg% bulls 37 hawks 37
                              3pt% bulls 60 (6/10) hawks 38 (5/13)
                              ft% bulls 78 (26/33) hawks 56 (14/25)
                              steals bulls 9 hawks 8
                              blocks bulls 15 hawks 13

                              scoring highlights bulls: B. Griffin 25pts 15 reb...hinrich 22 pts 7 assists, 2-3 3ptrs

                              hawks: A. horford 18 pts, 12 rebs...J. Johnson 18 pts...M. Bibby 16 pts 7 assists 3/8 3ptrs

I lowered the frequency of 3ptrs down to 45 and raised the mid range to 55...it seems to have helped, but only time will tell. as you can see, there was a serious block party going on, 28 blocks total is outrageous. I will leave these alone for a while and see what happens..this might be really bad when D. Rose and Gordon come off of injury list.
