What's the key to effective dribbling and player control?

PS3 user: kinda getting back into 2k hoops after a couple years off...what is the key to control of the player with the ball. Just looking for general help...do you always use turbo, do you barely move the stick or do you press the stick fully in the direction you are wanting to go...

basically looking for advice on best way to move players and get the movements you're looking for???
    MLB: Chicago Cubs
    NCAA Hoops: Georgetown Hoyas
    NBA: Los Angeles Lakers
    NFL: Kansas City Chiefs
    NCAA Football: Nebraska Cornhuskers
HS Football: Rolla High School Bulldogs '95 (12-1)

I've found that what helps me is don't use turbo or LT (L2) until you get the defender leaning one way or shading to one side. Use the isomotion moves to get seperation and only use turbo once you have an opening to the hoop.

Of course to pull of fancier moves you should use turbo sooner, but 90% of the time you don't need them.

Also, don't try to always take to direct of a route if you can help it. You're only giving the defender a shorter distance to cut you off.

I feel like I'm stuck in molasses in this game. The sliding seems to have gotten worse. I feel like I have no control of my player at times. This version of 2k is feeling more and more like 2k9. Looks like the spin move is going to be the move of choice to get your man open again.

I was online and the guy I was playing was spinning all over the place.

Right now I would pay 60 bucks for a roster update to 2k8. The last game they made where the dribble system worked and their was no sliding.

Like I said. It seems as if the sliding and stuck in molasses feel of 2k9 is back.

Honestly you probably jam the stick from side to side hoping to do isomotion. My advice is to practice the moves and when you get them down apply it in your game.

Thanks guys for the feedback, I'm in practice mode and using the LT AND LS (360) and taking all this advice, I think anybody new needs to get this down as soon as possible to have a chance in this game. I'm rolling with the Knicks so I need to know all of this because I cant rely on pure scoring players. Thanks for all the advice I'm using all of it.

Thanks, a lot of common sense here, but it requires some practice and actual skill, no gimmies in this game, Thanks again

just the part where he says that spacing is key helped me a lot. You can create more off the dribble if you just step back.

Right on the D-pad, then hit B (360)

If you have a mismatch ISOLATE! Get your teammates out of there!
