Re: The 2K12 Layup/Dunk Package Thread

I am crazy bout my layup/dunk packages as well. I totally agree with everything the person that created this post and what 2k10fonzarelli has said. I would love to be able to edit and pick and choose any dunk for any player.

Blake Griffin and Derozan definitely need their own dunk packages. Would love to see some dunk packages that reflect Shaq, Kobe, and Vinsanity in their primes. Also 99% of the time Lebron should be doing his classic (one handed Lebron-a-hawk, full extension, looking down at the rim dunk). There are a few different variations of this already in the game with how his legs and feet take off and land after the dunk and sometimes slight differences in how he torques his body during the dunk. Lebron shouldn't be doing 2 handed dunks or the double clutch kobe-esque dunk, thats in his package, nearly as often as he does. It should mostly be the Lebron-a-hawk like stated above.

The thing that takes the realism away from me at times, is the insane windmill dunks like thats in wes johnson's dunk package. I wouldn't mind it on a fast break but i hate seeing it in traffic. Wish there was a way that only certain dunks would trigger in only "fast break" situations. That would be dunk editing nirvana.

I'd love to see a good overall big man package. Better than what we've had in the past. Guys like Boozer or K Mart should get a package or at least make a big man package that does a lot of 2 handlers with slight tomahawk action, and a slight hang. Boozer always hangs from one hand when finishing, while swinging with the momentum.

I can't remember what game it was, but it was roughly 11-12 years ago. You could make your own dunks. I loved it. Possibly Inside Drive?

Re: The 2K12 Layup/Dunk Package Thread

Those concerned will be happy to note that Both Howard and Kemp already have Signature Dunk packages(see : NBA 2K11). They could use a slight tweak here or there, especially Kemp.

Also, building on what SIZEqueen said, they should include multipul Generic Packages for players who prefer to dunk 2 handed or 1 handed, gather off 2 feet or 1 foot.

Boozer and K-Mart had some pretty serious dunks over their careers. Though both seem to be past their athletic primes, they still need a dunk package that does their style of dunking some justice.

I have a feeling that this thread should be re-titled The NBA 2k13 Lay-up/Dunk Package thread because its a little late to suggest additions to 2k12. I also feel that this type of discussion should remain independent of the Official wishlist for 2k13 as semantics like these are easily lost in the mess of other great ideas that appear in such a thread. For all we know, all this speculation will be realised by most in just over a week's time.

But, maybe we can get the attention of someone who has the game already. Ken North always seems to get his a week early, and he's very generous in releasing information prior to release. anyone know him or anyone else?

Mind you, I remember reading something a few years ago that mentions 2k's/VC's ability to add animations through an NBA today update.

...and now i realise the NBA lockout will prevent NBA today updates so perhaps the previous statement is irrelevant. Or perhaps i'm wrong entirely

Lastly, building on what Tmoney mentioned. Seeing windmill dunks in heavy traffic from anyone besides a young Vince also take a bit away from the realism for me too.
What will kill you about that is trying to understand why such a system WAS present in NBA 2k10 but absent in 2k11. Or perhaps, it was just the W Johnson Dunk package that didn't have that limiter on it

Before 2k10, a (now unfortunately banned) member had a thread dedicated to assigning realistic packages to players whose packages were a little too unrealistic in the context of total realism. Maybe it was that movement that prompted Visual Concept to implement such a system in 2k10.

I've always felt that while he was largely right, there should be a little room left for some excellent highlight moments as there's always potential for a 'video game' like dunk to appear on Sportscenter on any given night. But nothing along the lines of Windmills, 360's and pump reverses in heavy traffic, though that ability to do so should be made available for those who want it.

So, 2k/VC if your reading this, please re-implement this realistic dunk in traffic setting for users who use Sim settings if you haven't already done so. If thats not the case, maybe a slight tweak to Certain Dunk packages will acheive this effect

Re: The 2K12 Layup/Dunk Package Thread

I totally agree with you Fonzarelli. I think we may have been switched at birth lol. I am also a huge KMart fan and always wondered myself why he never got his own dunk package. His dunks with the Nets during the Kidd and Jefferson days were priceless. He was the fiercest dunker I've ever seen. I just loved his raw enthusiasm and wanting to rip the rim down on someone's head on every attempt...very Neon Beudoux like (Shaqs character from the hoops movie Blue Chips). Basically most of the rim hang dunks using the Dwight Howard dunk package kinda fit KMart last yr on 2k11. If they could get the signature celebration when he would be pulling on his jersey after a vicious dunk...that would be perfect.

P.S. If anyone gets the Neon Beudoux reference...I wouldn't mind if they got Butch McCray his own dunk package as well

This would add a great deal of realism to this game because there a number of players, especially those 6'2" and under, who may be able to dunk off of one or two feet, but typically exhibit one or the other in a game setting because it is their default orientation. I would venture to say that the majority of players will almost always revert to their most natural plant whilst dunking in games. However, some of premier leapers, e.g. prime VC, MJ, etc., definitely alternate one- or two-foot gathers according to situation.

There are complaints of unrealistic dunks in the games, e.g. windmills, between-the-legs, etc., and while these concerns are not unfounded, I feel that non-dominant-hand and unnatural-gather dunks are more unrealistic. For example, Jason Richardson has demonstrated his ability to perform 360s in the game setting, however it is unlikely he would ever plant first with his right foot, lead with his left, spin in a clockwise motion, and finish with his left hand--JRich is a left-right planter who will spin counterclockwise and almost always finish with his right hand.
