NBA 2K13 - Let's Talk About NBA Authenticity, Artistic Improvements

After the success of the thread created last year for NBA 2K12, I figured it would be great to get started for NBA 2K13.

The Rules

The thread focuses on the following:

Arenas

Player Faces

Player Looks

Player Accessories

Jersey Mistakes

The point of this is to make it as easy as possible to get these updates into the game; pictures help provide that immensely. Try to stay as specific as possible. This isn't a wishlist thread, but more a correction thread.

I'll start with one of my favorite categories:

Shoes:
One of the great addition's in NBA 2K12 was the ability to unlock new shoes as you played the game. Now, this would be a more complete experience if shoes were in fact in high-resolution.

It adds to the immersion when a shoe actually looks like this:

Spoiler

Only ideas with pictures will be added to the list on this post, so let's get it going!

Player Faces

Current:
Dwight Howard, Dirk Nowitzki, Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Stephen Jackson, Amar'e Stoudemire , Andre Iguodala, Jerry Stackhouse, Grant Hill, Gerald Wallace, Brook Lopez, Nick Young, Vince Carter, David Lee, Kevin Love, Brandon Jennings

Dream Team: Players look too old compared to their 1992 conterparts and Bird has his 1984 look.

Scottie Pippen - Ingame vs Real Life, Larry Bird - Ingame vs Real Life, Karl Malone - Ingame vs Real Life, John Stockton - Ingame vs Real Life, David Robinson - Ingame vs Real Life Patrick Ewing - Ingame vs Real Life, Magic Johnson - Ingame vs Real Life

Classic:
Scott Williams, Allen Iverson

New players/faces:
Nando de Colo, Joel Freeland, Jerome Jordan, Jeremy Pargo, Greg Steismsa, Ivan Johnson, Gustavo Ayon, Terrell Harris, Morris Almond, Xavier Silas, Jamaal Tinsely, Walker Russell Jr, Blake Ahearn, Jerry Smith, Darryl Watkins, Greg Smith, Andre Emmett, Donald Sloan, Malcolm Thomas, Jeff Pendergraph, Gerald Green, Sean Williams, Marcus Cousins, Lance Thomas, James Singleton, Carldell Johnson, Mike James, Cory Higgins, Courtney Fortson, Mikki Moore, Larry Hughes, Eric Dawson, Justin Dentmon, Jerome Dyson

Player Looks

-Please address the player models. We don't want that live 09/live 13 look and we don't want these Football player models anymore. Players aren't that muscular, tone it down. Models should be divided into four types of category:

Wiry - Skinny and long - Tayshaun Prince, Kevin Durant, George Hill
Normal - Undefined muscles - Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Anderson Varejao, Samuel Dalembert
Muscular - Very defined - Dwight Howard
Hefty - Big and bulky, a little "chunky" - Glenn Davis, DeJuan Blair
-Add this kind of CAP mode. Especially in regards to player physique - Ref. 1
-In edit-player you should decide what accessories to wear. At the select jersey screen, you could press Y and it would show headband, sleeves, arm bands, leg accessories, socks, and home/away shoe.
-3D hair like in 2K7, white guys with long hair have hair that moves, they don't stuff it with gel - Ref. 1, Ref. 2
-Add sweat - Ingame vs Real Life
-More hairstyles and facial hair styles that look real - Ref. 1
-Realistic tattoos, make current tattoos on players accessible and you could be able to layer them - Ref. 1
-Make current players editable. We could give Dirk his long or short hair, Kobe a thick beard, or whatever we want to do. Or over time in our Association, maybe we want someone like Kevin Durant or Anthony Davis to put on some muscle. That way, we can have players age and their look will change over time, as opposed to having a 36 year old Durant look exactly like his 24 year old self. - Ref. 1, Ref. 2
-Add leg tattoos - J.R. Smith
-Add body hair (chest, armpits, arms, legs, etc) - Steve Nash
-There's a weird geometry glitch in Durant's armpit/pectoral area that shows up when arms are raised. Ref. 1
-2K12-13 seems to render players with a mild layer of sweat wax at all times, without either the subtle reflections of dry skin or the realistic gleam of wet skin as opposed to 2K11: Non sweaty vs Sweaty
-Player eyes new lighting in 2K12 have a cartoony look where everyone looks like they're wearing stage makeup eye shadow. You can see how realistic 2K11 looks (with the faces are done right).

Tattoos:

Jeff Teague Ref. 1/Ref. 2 Mario Chalmers Ref. 1 Tyson Chandler Ref. 1 Shawn Marion Ref. 1 Kawhi Leonard Ref. 1

Classic: Anthony Mason ('95 Knicks) should have no tattoos - Ref.1

Accessories

-Have home and away accessory colors. Include an option where we can set it and mix headband/accessories/shoes colors for home and away - Ref 1. Boston Celtics Home / Boston Celtics Away
-The extended finger tape must not cover the whole finger, we should be able to add numbers to it - Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett
-Also allow us to double up on the finger tape - Delonte West
-Player accessories often do not look 'white', instead they look grey, especially in arm sleeves and head bands.
-Allow us to put letters and numbers on elbow and forearm bands - Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Allen Iverson
-Add high arm bands like this
-Allow us to assign goggles to players as an accessory. Let us choose from different types and let us edit the color of the frames (allow clear frames too), the glass, the mask and the strap. Amar'e Soudemire, C. Douglas-Roberts, Horace Grant, Ben Wallace, James Worthy, Kurt Rambis
-Allow us to assign masks as an accessory. Include these masks: K. Bryant 1, K. Bryant 2, R. Hamilton
-Allow us to edit sock color
-Make full calf sleeve combine with socks Carmelo Anthony 1, Carmelo Anthony 2, Chris Andersen
-Improve elbow bands. Whether that's the geometry/texture or both because it looks painted on their arms - Ref. 1, Ref. 2
-Make short arm sleeve have padding
-Make adidas sleeves look like this
-Add large knee brace - Andrew Bynum, Tim Duncan
-Add colored knee braces
-Make socks show for leg sleeves- Player behind Monta Ellis
-Adidas knee/calf sleeve + adidas ankle braces (that can go over socks) - Derrick Rose
-Adidas tech-fit calf sleeve
-Wristband combined with rubberband like this
-Add new hand and thumb wraps - Chris Paul, Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng
-We should be able to put accessories over one another - Durant's knee brace , R.Brewer
-Add mouthguards. Many NBA players wear them and chew on them while they are on the court - Ref. 1
-100% of NBA players who use compression shorts have hex pads
-Add the Adidas compression shorts - Ref. 1
-Fix the undershirt problem: you can't see undershirt when player is still, you can when the player is in motion
-Add Navy Blue as a Team Color Option for the Nuggets - Ref. 1
-Add kneepads(the small ones) w/o holes in the back for current players - Caron Butler
-Ankle/Foot wrap under sock - Ref. 1
-Move Shoulder Sleeve & Full Arm Sleeve to Undershirt category and add an option for left, right or both. That way you can do this: Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3
-Double/triple size headbands - Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony
-Add Medium Double socks b/c the so called "Medium Double socks" in 2K are actually Long Double socks - Ref.1
-Make it so you can have ankle wrap/brace over sock - Ref. 1
-Add the "adidas adiZero Speedwrap Ankle Brace" and make it so you can layer over the socks. - Ref.1
-Add "no NBA logo" socks and an option to make them look rolled down - Chris Paul

Arena Specific

-Correct seat types for Target Center - Real Life vs Ingame
-Include all nba team mascosts - Ref. 1
-Classic Chicago Stadium: Center court logo should not be cut up by lines.
-NBA Playoffs and NBA finals logos need to be different for each era.
-Make the surroundings/seating/roof & shotclocks of classic arenas to reflect their past real life counterparts and not generic.
-Greatest mode arena sounds & music should be available in other game modes too.
-Make that grainy gray film & old school presentation available for other modes: quickplay, season, franchise mode.
-Remove no-charge zone half circle from classic arenas in all game modes.
-Add Boston Garden for old Cletics teams

Jerseys

-Make the jersey's tighter and more fitted Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Side of jersey Real Life vs Ingame
-Jerseys have no thickness AT ALL, still looks super paper thin.
-Make shorts shorter, they are way too long - Real life vs Ingame
-The Warriors away jerseys should be a more deep/true royal blue color - Ref. 1, Ref. 2. On the back of the away jersey at the top, the basketball should be yellow - Ref. 1
-Include special jersey patches through jersey art updates - Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3
-Include the retro jerseys to be worn in the 2012-13 Season - Ref.1, Ref. 2
-Include the new Winter Court jerseys for all these teams
-The back of the Raptors away & home jerseys have a red maple leaf instead of the silver claw - Ref. 1, Ref. 2
-Retro 92 Blazers need that red waistband removed from the jerseys.
-Include alternate jerseys for classic teams too. Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3
-Era specific NBA Finals logo on jerseys - Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3
-Make jersey fit editable. Some players wear tight jerseys, some wear them looser. Some guys wear shorter shorts, some guys prefer the long fit - Ref. 1

Shoes

-High resolution shoes, please! - like this
-Right colorway: be able to perfectly recreate ANY colorway that actually exists for every shoe in the game - Air Jordan VI, Air Jordan XI, Air Jordan XIII

Other

-The ball should be inbounded to Scottie Pippen ala Lebron James, he should initiate the offense like a PG.
-When Kobe is on fire and hits a three he puts his arms out like this

Re: NBA 2K13 - Let's Talk About NBA Authenticity, Artistic Improvements

Classic Bulls Teams in Chicago Stadium: Center court logo should not be cut up by lines. The entire Bulls logo should fit within the circle!

Also give Chicago Stadium that old school horn that you heard at games.

95 Orlando Magic: Backboard have modern shot clocks. Apparently 2k just pasted the 2k11 version of the 2011 Magic's Orlando Arena without realizing it should be modified to fit the 95 version.

NBA Playoffs and NBA finals logos need to be different for each era. Several versions of the logo should be in the game

Make that grainy gray film and old school presentation available not only in NBA's Greatest Mode but other forms of gameplay: quickplay, season, and franchise mode. Designate presentation to reflect the home team.

The 80s Lakers have the Forum... the 80s Celtics deserve the Boston Garden.

Speaking of classic arenas, make the surroundings/seating/roof and ceiling of these venues better reflect their past real life counterparts: Key Arena, the Omni, Charlotte Coliseum, Richefield Coliseum, etc. The curtain for the Alamodome was nice but its ruined by these giant windows that look like skyboxes. They are in liek every generic classic arena. At least remove that 2k if you can't give us legit looking arenas.

Classic Dornas and Led Lighting should be minimal and reflect the past. 2K needs to step up in classic arena atmosphere.

94 Nuggets road uniforms need to be fixed.

Retro 92 Blazers need that red waistband removed from the jerseys

In Greatest Mode you hear the classic bulls music playing in Chicago Stadium and classic Knicks sound play @ MSG. These sounds should play in the arenas in other game modes. Takes away from that past feel of things.

NBA Authenticity: Make NBA player's actions, animations, and behavior go beyond shooting. Dennis Rodman should tip the ball to himself several times on a rebound, MJ should tug on his shorts when bent over during free throws, Patrick Ewing waving his arms to pump up the crowd, Allen Iverson holding his hand to his ear to hear the roar of the crowd, Gary Payton should run the offense with his back to the basket like he's backing down guards all the time. Although you can't have technicals in the game make guys like Rasheed Wallace talkative. We don't have to hear what he says, but it be great to see guys like him, Kevin Garnett, MJ, Larry Bird, and Gary Payton run their mouths alot.

Guard Post game. Last year 2K gave a a real post game for Hakeem and McHale. Older MJ should have a post game, while young MJ is a slasher.

The Passing of Magic Johnson.... no look, bounce, and behind the back passes... and we as users should control which of those 3 special passes we want to make

I want to feel like its 80's style of ball... Showtime Lakers.... doesn't exist in 2k without that. Also you need to feel like you are in a track meet.... a real up and down kind of game.

Make the Bad Boys and Knicks more "intimidating" Fine you cant have them try to hurt people. But make animations where those players glare at the other teams players. Make them behave brash bold cocky in their attitude. Make it noticeable.

Accessories should have home-road duality. By that I mean accessories are white at home, black on the road.

Instead of making Kevin Harlan, Kerr, and Kellog talk about last year's record, trades, moves, playoff finish... make it more generic. We don't need to hear about last season. Instead make the commentators talk about team history like great players in franchise history, how they began, what style of play they traditionally have (offensive or defensive direction) Its annoying to play in association mode with the Magic and have the commentators talk about the team lik it is still 2011 when your in year 10 of franchise mode.

I like that 2K put in the extended finger tape, but it covered the whole finger. If we can get the tape along the finger but doesn't cover the whole finger. Also allow us to double up on the finger tape. Like Below.

Player accessories often do not look 'white', instead they look grey in alot of cases. I've seen this most often when it comes to arm sleeves and some head bands.

@mo2thewillyo

It's better if you group your ideas by category like jerseys/arenas and have a picture to illustrate each one.

Remember, things like commentary lines and gameplay related like certain player's post game belong in the wishlist section and not here.

Also, please let's try not to nitpick too much

Accessories: I wish 2K did what Live did in the past = allow us to put numbers on elbow bands, for example. Would be cool if they even went deeper and allowed letters and numbers. But it might be too late to ask for this.

I'm all for home/away accessory colors...but I'm just tired of asking for that. Hopefully it's in the game this time.

Agreed, I would also like to see home and away accessory colors.

Re: NBA 2K13 - Let's Talk About NBA Authenticity, Artistic Improvements

They just need to make the jersey's tighter and more fitted than the loose 2002 jersey's they have it's been two full seasons of these new Adidas jersey's but it's 2k. Also the shorts are way to long, again this isn't 2002 get rid of the bagging stuff and I'm cool example.
