This game is the best. I tried and failed at the difficult ESPN NHL 2K4. Pro too easy, All Star too hard. I came up with slider settings for NHL 2k3. Anyone who can?t play on the new game should at least try the old but great 2K3.
I, for one, never found the goalies too hard to score on. I found it too hard to get off a good shot because the defense was too good. I listened to the ?experts? who said you slow the game down. After driving 2 hours to watch my San Jose Sharks, I realized hockey was meant to play fast. I watched the speed and quickness of the decisions and reactions of the goalies and went home to make 2K3 play like that. It was not hard at all.
First I moved the speed up to 4 or 5. The goalies in this game don?t slow down like the play on the ice. Sooooo, when you skate up in slow motion, the goalie is going to stop everything.
I lowered the game time to 5 minutes. I dropped the shot blocking and pass interceptions down. Why? The defense will stop all your good shots and the only pucks that get through are simple to stop.
To make up for that adjustment, I increased the defensive stop up to 9/10 to make them play better but dropped the offense ability to compensate (5 or 6).
Goalie ability should be at 2 or 3 depending on your ability.
I choose to have the pass accuracy at 5 with pass assist full.
There are so many buttons to use on Intermediate or Advanced that I have Auto-aim on. Some may balk at that but I love it. Shot accuracy should be at 5 or so. I love these pass/shot settings because players whiff on shots, miss point blank, and deep slap shots will sometimes hit the glass above and behind the goalie. The teams average 25 to 39 shots and scores range from 1-0 to 7-5. I have had under 20 shots before and have kept the CPU to 4 shots in a period. Most game scores are in the 3-2 to 4-3 range.
I will post the total settings later but this gives you an idea of what you can do. Some may think that this just means you will race up and down the ice but it doesn?t. If you play good defense, it won?t. But if you don?t, you will give up breakaways regularly. I still have to dump the puck and fight along the boards. But now since all my passes aren?t intercepted. Now I can set up the offense and get good shots.
Download the Flying Finns roster editor if you have X-port and get his roster. You can edit the players names that way.
