MLB 09: The Show: Even More Visually Sparkling Than MLB 08 (PSX Extreme)

PSX Extreme has the details.

Quote:

"Now, while last year's effort was indeed impressive, this year's will push the boundaries once more: not only will we have native 1080p support, but the game will actually run at a silky smooth 60 frames per second while viewing that resolution. In comparison, MLB 08 only ran at 30fps in 1080p."

I get the feeling this should have a lot more posts than it does.

60 fps on 1080p? Win.

Well...it is in 1080p...
They "optimized" it for 720...but you can run it in 1080.

Question, how do you "run it" in in 1080? My TV is 1080p, and my PS3 is set for 1080p, but does that mean the Show will be run at 1080p, or will I have to change some other things for that?

does 720 run at 60 fps too?

This is great news.

To the guys that went to SD, did you play the game in 720p or 1080p?

Nope....that should do it.
If you have the 1080p option checked on your PS3....it will run the game at that setting.

He has to UNCHECK the 720p option as well in the PS3's display properties, or the game will default to the "optimized" resolution of 720p. That will force it into 1080p.

My concern, is the site lists a 1080p picture, and the texture quality looks muddier than the 720p picture of '09 and not as crisp as even '08 pic shown. So something seems suspect. Would love a dev confirmation on this. Considering the pic does not look like 1080p should.

I have been playing the demo on a Sony XBR 1080P. Just like you Kenny, crisp and smooth, a real treat on the eyes. :)

Thank you sony this game is going to even look better this year on my 56" inch t.v. This game will be the game of the year hands down no question.

this has probably been answered in other threads, but last year you'd lose depth-of-field effects and get frame rate hitches if you played in 1080p.

are both of those are fixed now?

dizzam.

Re: MLB 09: The Show: Even More Visually Sparkling Than MLB 08 (PSX Extreme)

I would say they are. To me the only thing that looks better in 720p is the grass and foul lines from above. Other then that 1080p looks great but also plays smooth. Not exactly 60fps. Since when you throw to first you see a hic up when ball gets to first

i've been playing the demo for the past couple days on a 1080p display and it looks fine to me, most particularly, the sweeps and bumpers in between replays and game time footage--the "presentation pieces" so to speak.

but theaub, you're right, thought this would be getting a bit more pub 'round the boards.

Im pretty sure the reason it doesnt is cuz most people like me are in the ill believe it when I see it boat. just cuz some site says this and that doesnt mean its going to be as flawless at 1080p as it is as 720p

like mentioned earlier IF A DEVELOPER WOULD CHIME IN, than that would help. but since they arent I get the feeling this is like last years where it CAN run at 1080p but its optimized for 720, meaning the framerate will dip at 1080p.
And when some people come on here and claim they have it on 1080p and it runs smooth I wouldnt believe either some people just dont notice small things like some others do.

so in the end wait till march,

why wait till march when you have the demo set it to 1080p and see how it plays i noticed that the framerate was much improved from last year at 1080 but it is not as smooth to 720p but is is very very close 1080p is a thing of beauty this year

Exactly how I feel. The shot they showed is WAY MUDDIER and much lower res textures, which would explain how it is OMG SO SMOOTH LIKE 720p.

So either a dev can confirm or we wait 20 days!

20 DAYS!!!

The Demo I deleted and isnt good enough for one and it will be alot different for two, after Chris confirming that the framerate and optimizing issues are resolved last just before the game ships is all I needed to hear, the demo was a tad on the disapointing side (framerate issues for some) and the retail game should be top notch there for im waiting till march to test this out.
Again Ill believe it when I see it, but if it does it will be awesome no doubts about that

Dont think so 08 the show was the only game Ive ever had to manually turn off all the other resolutions, most games run at what they can out of the box if u have all them checked off.

Example COD5 if you have all the resolutions checked off, it will display 1080p regardless.
where as NBA live lets say even though everythings checked off will goto 720p it just goes to what the game out of the box has it set too, if you have all the resolutions checked.

except the show last year cuz on 1080p it was pretty bad. It really shouldnt have been included, but im sure it sold to some people looking on the back of the case and seeing 1080p capabilities problem was it ran at 30fps and looked choppy

that kinda sucks. Its gonna be a little bit annoying to have to keep unchecking 720p everytime I want to play. oh well its worth it, it looks great in 1080p!

Re: MLB 09: The Show: Even More Visually Sparkling Than MLB 08 (PSX Extreme)

I played 09 demo game first in 720p then 1080p to see if there was much difference.

First thing I noticed was how much more crisp 1080p was. The led numbers on the phillies RF wall were readable. The ice cream shop in left center was legible too. These words were not legible to me in 720p. The crowd and everything was just definitely sharper.

Now as far as gameplay goes I didn't notice any drop in framerate until swining the bat. I had myself believing that I was late more often on swinging the bat in 1080 mode but I'm not sure. It might be in my head. There wasn't any choppiness in the graphics or animations from what I could tell. Everything seemed smooth but the lateness on pitches when usually I'm early had me thinking that 1080 might be the cause of this. Still say its in my head.

Might cause lag in online play and if thats the case it would be back to crappy 720p. LOL.

the graphics are def better in 1080p

on my tv they looks amazing...720p looks nice but thats it

there is a few instances where the framerate drops below 60 on 1080p

it seems it happens mostly when throwing to the first baseman...as soon as the ball gets there notice the small frame drop and other little instances but nothing to make it hard on the eyes...

if you just play it on 1080p you will stop noticing it and be happy.

Everyone who knows about tv's should know that pioneer is the best. The problem is that not everyone can cough up $5000-$6000 for a tv and it's also a plasma which will kill your electric bill. The samsung he's mentioning is one of the best lcd's right now. Check cnet.com or even pcmag.com. That samsung is the truth. I would love a pioneer but the price is crazy.
