Fouls In FIFA 14

Going by their track record, it's seems pretty obvious to me at least that there's a philosophy in place at EA Sports in which they purposely limit the number of fouls/penalties in their sports games. Do you agree with this philosophy or do you feel that FIFA, Madden, and NHL ultimately suffer due to the exclusion?

I've been saying that for years, my assumption being they think it takes away from flow of the gameplay. There's a point where too much realism isn't fun anymore. For me though it's a simple thing to edit the game and add fouls back in as I only ever play offline against the CPU, so it's a non-issue.

Being a fan of every major sport i feel penalties are a huge part of each game. ea has lacked in penalties for as long as i can remember. yeats may be correct in there thinking that it disrupts the flow of game. In my opinion the majority of gamers dont care about sim they just mainly want to get in a quick game and have it fast paced. If you see how each ea sports game comes setup out of the box its either 6 min halfs (fifa) , 5 min qtrs (madden) and 6 min periods for hockey. i really wish they could just add a penalty slider for fifa.(that actually works) :y220:

In response to EA's philosophy, I sent one of their developers a tweet:

"Without fouls, why do you guys even bother having FK Specialist as a trait? Or FK abilities at all?"

You can't take free kicks if you're not fouled. In FIFA, even when you're fouled, you're not fouled. It's maddening.

I see more fouls in this years game, problem is that they have been mostly red cards. Last game I played had 4 red cards. 3 on me and 1 on the cpu. Mostly from silly tangled situations the players get put into because of the game engine.

I want to see more fouls, but less cards

Not just that but why the hell is there a custom set play designer? Oh great I can make two people run over the ball and one back heel it and then I swoop in and take a thunderous boot into the back of the ball and...

Oh wait never mind. I can set them up but won't get a chance to use them.

1 FK in range in 70 some matches. :spit: :nono:

Also in terms of online logic it would be amazing if it could tell if the user was sprinting all game long. Because then It could take that into account and start calling fouls and carding people who sprint and slide tackle all game long.

If you fly around the pitch like a madman in real life and barge into someone you get a card.

Same with the CPU offline. If they race around the pitch and step in and tackle the ball from me 20 times the odds are 1 of those is going to be a foul.

Re: Fouls In FIFA 14

I had a reply to this issue a few days ago from one of the FIFA developers, Gilliard Lopez and this was his response.

@grunglopes:"I'm not sure a 'slider' would make sense. Fouls are a result of physical interactions which are completely dynamic in #FIFA14". "That said, we can of course tune it - and we did. I think physical play is well balanced, would hate to have too many stoppages".

I think his last part sums up their approach and why it is what it is.....
