...then records aside, for a player his age, I'd consider it one of the most remarkeable numbers in the history of the game. Until we sort out the mess of the steroids era - if we ever do - that'd be my immediate reaction.
Unfortunately, if anyone ever eclipsed 70 home runs again, I know I would be hesitant to just accept it and not question whether the player is on something or if there's another factor that would generate such a high home run number. I will say though...if Howard hits 60 or more, I think he sets the "post testing" benchmark that should probably measure how the next 10-20 years will play out in terms of home run totals. Too many years have passed over these long seasons in the game of baseball to think they won't come back to earth like they did last year.

I wouldn't, because even if 'roids were the reason, they weren't against the rules. That being said, it would impress me 100x more than Bonds' 73. Isn't this only Howard's second season?
