However, the bad far outweighs the good in my mind. Case-in-point, if you weighed both sides on a scale (the good he did for baseball and the bad he did for baseball) which side is more impactful? Regardless of the city one is in, there is no denying the facts.

In correlation, would y'awl agree if the Cardinals erected a statue of McGwire?
See, being from the Milwaukee area, I can separate owner from commissioner. This statue isn't being made for the best commissioner award, it's being made for the contributions he made as a owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. I'm not weighing the impact he had with baseball in Milwaukee vs his impact overall in baseball.

To me, it's two different things.

I think you are only looking at the commish side of things.

I truly am looking at it from that perspective, Road as I don't recall the supposed struggles in keeping/getting a team for Milwaukee. I guess I'm too young to remember the '60s.

Which, to an extent, is my point...albeit incidental. I just honestly doubt his legacy as an owner will triumph his legacy as a commissioner regardless of the city.

**Also, Franchise --> seriously?

Will this erection be sponsored by Viagra? If it stays up for more than 4 hours, will the statue have to seek immediate medical attention?

Childish jokes aside, I'm sure Selig has something to do with this. Guys like him want to insure his legacy and what better way than to get a statue of himself outside a ballpark?

I understand where you are coming from.

I just think people outside of Milwaukee and Wisconsin don't understand how difficult it was to keep a small market team in Milwaukee for as long as he did.

See, when I see the statue, I'll think of Selig as an owner, not a commish. An owner that took the Brewers to the WS for the first and last time in 82 with Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Ben Oglive, Gorman Thomas, Cecil Cooper etc...... That's the Selig I will remember.

I'd prefer not to think about the other Selig I know.

Maybe it's because i just don't like the guy but even as an owner outside of bringing a team to Milwaukee what did Selig do?.

The Brewers only made it to the playoffs twice under Selig and not once since 1982. Only 9 winning seasons under Selig who owned the team for 28 years. He never really spent money, they were never really contenders outside of a handfull of seasons. I just don't get it...

Being from a large market team, I wouldn't think you would.

Do you know how hard it is to compete with a $20 million dollar payroll? That was the payroll of Seligs last year as an owner. I wouldn't think a Red Sox fan could comprehend that.

It's not about how many pennants or WS Selig brought the Brewers, it's was his will to keep the team in Milwaukee after having it ripped away from the city of Milwaukee in the 60's.

I wouldn't expect anyone outside of a small market team to understand or comprehend it.

Now, with revenue sharing, (thanks to Selig the commish), the Brewers are able to compete with an $80 million payroll.

I know people are upset with Selig the commish, including myself, but Selig the owner kept the Brewers in a small market for 28 yrs.

First of all just because i am from Boston and Red Sox fan does not mean i don't understand how hard it is for small market teams to compete. The A's of the early 2000's and the Twins to this day are model examples for small market success. So please don't tell me what i can and cannot comprehend.

As for competing with a $20 million dollar payroll; perhaps you need to redifine your meaning of the word. They played with a $20 million dollar payroll (as have the Marlins and the Pirates) but they did not compete. They had 12 seasons finishing 20 or more games behind in their division, 17 finishing at least 15 games behind, 19 finishing at least 11 games behind, and in all that only had a winning record twice in a season finishing in double digits behind in their division. Interestingly, in 1990 the Brewers had the ninth highest payroll in baseball and still finished 14 games back in the AL East

He may have brought baseball back to Milwaukee, he may have had the will to keep them there against all odds and all the kudos in the world to him for it. But that doesn't make him a great owner.
