Jeff Suppan shuts out Cardinals

Jeff Suppan shut out the Redbirds this afternoon, winning his fifth straight start. He's 10-7, mid-3 ERA, and has looked impressive. Plus, he's inexpensive!

Think the Cardinals would like to have a guy like Suppan in their rotation right now? If I'm Dave Littlefield, I'm a happy guy right now. His value is surging. Frankly, I'd like to see the Pirates re-sign this guy. He's done very well for us.

They always seem to play better when there's no pressure.

I remember back in 1996, right after the Pirates traded Denny Neagle to Atlanta for Jason Schmidt and two scrubs, they reeled off 11 straight wins. Go figure! If you're good enough to win 11 straight, why couldn't you play that way all year?

If/when they deal Giles and Kendall, the Bucs will surge to challenge the Astros for the division title! LOL

They should keep him..Trade everyone else but keep Sup Fogg and Wells to spell Burnett and those other pitching prospects they got down in Class A,AA or AAA.

I agree. With the money they're going to save by trimming the payroll, they should go ahead and exercise Suppan's $4 million option for next year. If he continues to do well, ink him long term. I like a rotation of Kip Wells, Josh Fogg, Jeff Suppan, Sean Burnett, and maybe Jake Peavy or Oliver Perez.

Littlefield's stocking pitching for a reason: he'll use it to get good, young position players. I know one thing: he CAN'T WAIT to get rid of Kris Benson.

(Of course, this assumes the Littlefield-Towers summit taking place at PNC Park the next three days results in a big Pirates-Padres swap. )
