Why are European BIG men in the NBA so soft?

I have yet to see a dominant BIG come out of Europe. They all seem to have one thing in common: SOFT. Players like Dirk Nowitzki, Andrei Kirilenko, Pau Gasol, etc. Heck, Arvydas Sabonis and Vlade Divac paved the road for the personification of being soft players. You would think that someone with their stature and size would be dominant on defense and on the boards.

Another player that fits this bill would be Yao Ming, although he's not from Europe. Yao Ming should be a beast and a force to be reckoned with down low in the paint, but he gets pushed around by players that are a lot smaller.

Yao is playing a lil stronger now, but he had to get over the "politeness" that's just engrained in his culture. I've seen AK-47 cry, so he qualifies as soft, lol. Whachu expect, man? Not everyone is Dwight Howard.

If you mean "soft" by playing a more rounded game including better outside shooting, a foul shot percentage higher than a trailer court first time mom's age, ball handling and not fouling as a statement....

Then yeah, they're all soft.

Because you might have a bias about them and more actively look for their softness than you do with American players.
