Where will they end up in terms of "all time"

Where will all the "old" players in the NBA today be ranked in terms of all-time for either their position or just all time players. And by old I mean the guys who will be retiring within the next 5 years probably. Just off the top of my head I would say

Steve Nash - a few year left maybe and IMO is one of the best passers of all time and has one of the best shooting percentages of all time in terms of FG, FT and 3pt.

Grant Hill - Classiest player in the league, he's 37 years old and still playing good

Shaq - we all have our own opinions on Shaq, either love him or hate him

Jason Kidd - Always has a triple double chance

And then the "big 3" from the Celtics. Allen is one of the top pure shooters in a long time while Pierce and KG I think really started showing more when they played together. I dont know if that hurts their legacy or helps it.

And of course Tim Duncan

But where would you rank these "old" guys as to how they will be remembered.

And I did not put Kobe because that convo is just pointless he is just in a different league then this guys I think

grant hill - won't be remembered as an all-time great, but will rank high on the all-time "what if?" lists.

shaq - top 5 all-time center, top 15 all-time player.

paul pierce - top 20 small forward. top 80 player.

kevin garnett - top 6 power forward. top 35 player.

tim duncan - top 1 power forward. top 10 player.

Whats the infatuation with Steve Nash he is great player everything but he is not top ten on any all time list.

I think it's because Nash is the best shooting PG ever and that his passing/feel for the game is right up there with any other PG in history.

His defense isn't there we all know that.

Since Duncan is considered a "power forward" I think he's a bit overrated due to people saying "he's the best power forward ever". He's a center though. I don't know it's something that has always bothered me a little... I mean I don't disagree with him being the best PF ever, but I just think he's a center not a PF. So compared to Shaq as a center, I think Shaq was the superior force/player. But in the end it's all good, I think Kobe/Shaq/Duncan are clearly the faces of the late 90's early 2000's to mid 2000's

Anyway it's crazy I just saw that Marbury is #21 all time assists. Wow. And Andre Miller is #18. Crazy.

Duncan IS a PF, has played that position his whole career and has always been listed that way except for recently. just because he is 7ft doesnt mean a thing.

Meh he's had guys like Rasho, Nazr, and Berto but they played like 15-20 MPG. For the bulk of games Duncan manned the middle. He may have started at PF for a few minutes but he's a center.

Agreed with everything you posted. Except Nash probably to me isn't undisputed top 5 PG. He's top 7 or 8 to me.

And I wasn't really old enough to analyze Stock's best years compared to Nash's. So I can't say.

What makes you say that I'm curious and like I said I wasn't old enough for Stock.

right, Rasho, Nazr, and Berto are CENTERS. oh yeah and include David Robinson too

Shaq duncan kobe are all first ballot.

ill take stockton as well. Nash is so bad on defense he is a liability. Stockton was good at slithering his way to the hoop and scoring and effective from mid range. Nash defenitly has more range though

Yeah I know they're centers, I was just saying that they didn't really play true starter minutes. I honestly don't care that much about what position people consider him, but I do wonder what people characterize as a "center" and a "power forward".

Barkley, Malone, Kemp etc. those guys to me were the are the ideal power forwards.

Duncan/Pau to me are centers who can play PF, not the other way around. Even in their younger days.

To me I guess I consider someone a center almost automatically if you're a 7 footer. Further more if you post up and use a back to the basket game, you're definitely a center.

Dirk is an exception for a 7 footer because he doesn't utilize a post up game. He's almost like a SF/PF

yeah i figured that much which i do understand to a point and if we were speaking bout the NBA in the early 80's and pre 80's i would totally agree with you.

these days size is not a big of factor as it used to be. the way that person plays is starting to be the dominant factor in alot of cases. i mean hell, alot starting centers today are only about 6-9. 6-10 look at Howard.

I even look at KG and think oh he's a PF for sure. But he and Duncan are the same size... so that's why I don't really care that much if people consider Duncan a PF.
