    NBA Live - new feature

    Hey guys,

On the NBA Live preview in the news section, it talk's about this new surprise feature that will be really amazing.

"Besides one feature that was unannounced -- one that and will really change the way you play basketball games (sorry, you’ll have to wait!) -- another healthy surprise is the inclusion of online play for the PlayStation 2 (only) version. "

Anyone heard any rumore about what this feature is?

Of course I'll be skeptical until I actually play this game, but it seems like EA has really made an effort to improve this game. At the least, it seems like the rebounding will be vastly improved!

    rebounding ... lol j/k

I have no idea, however, its about time I even thought of buying Live for a next gen console. Until now i haven't even considered it.

I think Live 2003 will be great. At least, I'm hoping it will. I'm definitely getting it for the PC, not the consoles though. I think what the new surprise feature really is, is the control of both hands of a player. That was mentioned on NBA Live's website, and that would definitely be something that could have a significant impact upon the way the game is played.

I had the same opinion as you Bryan but, after hearing that EA has totally started from scratch(coding interface and so on) i'm eagerly awaiting this title.

Re: NBA Live - new feature

i'm sorry, but live has a lonnnnggggggg way to go to catch nba2k series, in my opinion. i mean, live didnt even have a franchise mode last year, yet nba2k1 had it, on dreamcast. ea got really lazy with live and triple play thinking they were set with no competition. now sega arrives and blows ea out of the water in basketball and baseball. ( i also like nfl2k better than madden, but madden is awesome nonetheless).

Don't be so shortsighted sportsdude. While Live 2001 and Live 2002 sucked on the PS2, and Xbox, I hear the Playstation 1 version was much better. And Live 2000 was a great game for the PC. Live 2003 looks like it's going back to what 2000 did right, and adding to THAT. I've seen some of the gamespot videos and the game does look a hell of a lot better. IMHO, all three b-ball games are going to be great, and I'm definitely getting them all.

Gamespot.com man, I can't see the movies, actually most people can't, could you help us out and upload those mov's somewhere so we can see??? Also, the new feature, what would having control over two hands do? Maybe the new feature that changes NBA video games is something to do with a bigger and better franchise...I HOPE SO!

i haven't seen movies yet of live 2003, however if anybody watched the nba draft, which i suspect some of you did, then you saw when they showed dunleavy in a warriors uniform, it honestly looked like a ps1 game, the only way i knew it was ps2 was because they said it was for ps2.

Re: NBA Live - new feature

I don't think they're talking about a franchise mode. That won't change the way the game is played. It just improves on a feature in an NBA videogame. The two-hand control might be what they're talking about though. In any case, judging Live 2003's quality from what was shown in the NBA draft is ludicrous, IMHO. The screenshots don't look like a PS1 game, so I don't see how you could mistake it for one. I'm assuming you've seen screenshots. I can only view the videos in streaming format. I actually paid $5 for the month to join Gamespot Complete just to see them. I'm looking forward to the game. I think the Jason Kidd trailer impressed me the most, the other videos aren't very clear because they're gameplay footage that was recorded live.

NBA 2k2 was so fun to play and realistic to me. Now that NBA 2k3 has sliders and a lot more animations and options it won't matter to me that Live 2003 is much improved because I doubt it'll be better than NBA 2k3 in my eyes.

I would have to agree that 2K is the ay to go. It was far and away more realistic and had better animations and conrols than NBA Live. I am curious to see the new live though because I did enojy all of the Live series on teh PS1. Should be interesting but still think that 2K is further up the pole and Live would have to add a whole lot to catch up!

Well, no, it's not that realistic. NBA 2k2 relies TOO much on calling plays. What I'd like to see is if a team's really behind in a game, and it has a superstar on that team, he tries to take the game over and lead by example. That would be nice to see. Players forcing the issue when their team is down big.

Re: NBA Live - new feature

my experience with the NBA live series has always been that it is too easy to take it to the hole- I know in real life this is mostly what NBA players do, but I thought it got repetitive. I think the 2k series has basketball done right.

Re: NBA Live - new feature

Far from it, IMHO. I don't see how using a crossover/spin combo over and over again to get into the lane is right. ID 2002 should be the benchmark in terms of how to drive into the lane. What's lacking in ID 2002 is JUDGEMENT. The AI should worry about getting their shots blocked and not put themselves in situations where if there's a shotblocker in the paint, they'd get their shot blocked. They should instead choose to run set plays when they're getting their shots blocked so that way they increase their effectiveness and chances of scoring. What I really like about ID 2002 is the user has to worry about his shots getting blocked as well, and he DOES have to use judgement regarding when to put up a shot in the paint. I'm hoping judgement of defensive situations and stuff plays a big factor in these basketball titles this year.

Not to mention the post-up game in NBA 2k2 absolutely sucks. How many times have you seen a player just use a dunk or jump shot when trying to post up on someone? The moves are too limited. ID 2002 has a better range in that as well, although I think better post up players should have more moves than the poorer post up players in that game.
