    Modifying the Playoff Format

With another lackluster mismatch in the NBA finals, there is a bit of a buzz to modify the playoffs to enable teams from the same conference to meet in the finals.

I would like to see this in the NFL as well. I can recall the early 90's when Dallas and SF would really fight for the title in the NFC championship before going through the excercise of whipping an AFC team in the Super Bowl. In recent years it has been reversed with AFC dominance. I think it would have been great to see Dallas and SF meet in those superbowls of the 90's. And how much more excitement would recent superbowls have been had they been matchups of Indy, New England and Pittsburgh?

Is it sacrilege to not had an NFC vs AFC Superbowl? Personally, I think the old AFL - NFL rivalry faded away decades ago.

Anyways, sorry for the off season rambling thoughts. Just wondering what other people think.

i agree, you can run it just like an SEC Basketball Tournament

    you would have

    AFC4 vs. NFC5 winner vs. NFC1
    NFC4 vs. AFC5 winner vs. AFC1
    AFC3 vs. NFC6 winner vs. NFC2
    NFC3 vs. AFC6 winner vs. AFC2

it wouldnt detract from anything as far as regular season goes as you are still seeded by where you finish within your league

It's fine in the NFL. In the NBA, there's a legit question whether any team in the east could beat a Western team in a playoff series.

In the NFL, the 'dominance' of the AFC has really been by 3 power teams, the Colts, Pats, and the Elway Broncos. Those teams have won 6 of the last 10. But by the nature of football, the games haven't been ridiculously bad. On any given day, aside from maybe the Ravens, the second Broncos, and the Bucs years, either team could have won.

The NFC typically has 2 teams or so in the top 5 teams in the NFL. In the NBA, the east might have 2 teams in the top 10, and they're at 8-10.

There is no need to fix things in the NFL. Everything goes in cycles so it's not something that worries me. Heck the last few years have seen competitive SBs. Now when the SBs start turning into blowouts again then maybe we can talk.

          I think it's fine.

            Nothing wrong with it IMO.

              why fix what isn't broke?

even the NBA playoffs work for me with one exception.

Why the hell do we have to sit through six weeks of playoffs? I hate these seven game series ... except when my Bulls are not involved (anymore).
