Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Can a 1st round QB be a bust in the modern age NFL?

Talk amongst yourselves. I'll give my thoughts before I go to bed.

(Yes I know about JeMarcus Russell but he's an outlier)

Very easily, I'd consider Mark Sanchez getting into that bust area the way he's been playing and where he was drafted. There are plenty of others this past decade as well just don't feel like going through them all right now.

Define modern age. I mean, I can go dig out the Joey Harrington jersey in my closet and stare at it until I die a little inside if that's what you want SPTO.

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

I think a bust also depends on where a guy is taken combined with expectations.

1st round guys that been meh/sucked since '07:
Brady Quinn
Jamarcus Russel
Mark Sanchez

Guys that I'd consider that could be candidates in a few years:
Blaine Gabbert
Tim Tebow
Josh Freeman

There weren't as many as I thought at first since were only going to '07

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Okay so basically I asked the question because the morning show guys were discussing this. It seems the QB position is, well not getting easier but so much of the college stuff is being run in the pros these days that the transition is easier. I personally think there'll always be guys who disappoint but I don't think we're gonna see massive flops like JaMarcus Russell anytime soon.

Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

Jamarcus Russell was the biggest bust qb since Ryan Leaf. I dont think he should be the standard of a bust qb because they're arent many 1st overall picks who were base heads and lazy walruses who had zero heart in what they did the second they cashed in their bonus checks.

It all depends on what you count as a bust. If a guy goes top 5 must he be an all pro? Superbowl champ? 30td qb? It depends on the context of your definition of a bust.

For example, imo Mark Sanchez is not a bust.
