Madden: What is Route-based Passing?

I'm a new Madden player, so I'm new to "route-based passing". I try pressing-IN on the L-stick (Xbox version) then pressing the button of the receiver......but I see no difference between doing this, and simply pressing the receiver's button.

Originally, I thought route-based passing works like this: a receiver is doing an OUT pattern, and instead of waiting for the receiver to make his cut out, you throw the ball to the spot before the receiver even turns. Am I wrong here? How is route-based passing supposed to work?

it's basically like you think it is, but sometimes you can lead someone off the route, I haven't played madden enough this year to know, how it is, last year it was better on that I option for me

Yep that's how it works. Lets say you throw(without using route based passing) an out but the receiver im still going striaght...mostly the throw will go straight(as if the WR was doing a fly). In route based passing , regardless of where the wr is at in their pattern, the pass will be thrown at the out.

hmmmmm....thanx for the help guys. I'm simply pressing-IN the L-stick.....should I be angling the stick also? Like aiming it towards the sidelines, at the same time?

I think you're suppose to move it in the direction to where you want the ball to go

Do you have to turn this feature on somewhere like on 2k with the maximum passing or is it, if you want to use it just use the analog sticks?

you just use it, you don't have to turn it on
