    NFL schedule comes out today
    By Rudy Martzke, USA TODAY
Christmas falling on a Saturday this year required audibles on the NFL's schedule that will be announced today at 5 p.m. ET on the NFL Network.
For the first time since the 1971 playoffs, when Christmas dinners were delayed until the finish of the two-overtime Miami-Kansas City playoff game, there will be a doubleheader Dec. 25.

CBS has a game at 5 p.m. and ESPN has one at 8:30.

"It will be dark in the East before we kick off on Christmas Day," said NFL vice president Greg Aiello, declining to reveal the teams.

Fox carries the first Friday game in five years, on Dec. 24 at 3 p.m.

Because of college bowl games on Saturday, Jan. 1, all NFL games over the New Year's weekend will be played on Sunday, Jan. 2.

In special interest games, Green Bay makes its first visit to Washington since 1979, and new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens faces the Baltimore Ravens, for whom he refused to play.

The only thing the Lions know for sure is that they will either play the Colts or the Texans on Thanksgiving.

          Re: NFL scedule info!!!

Vikings will meet their archrival for the first time in 2004 at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 14 at Lambeau Field, according to a person with knowledge of a nearly complete draft of the schedule. The Vikings and Packers will play again at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve, a Friday, in Week 16 at the Metrodome.

Other points of interest: The Vikings will have their bye during Week 4 and will close the regular season at Washington.

Also, odds are good the Vikings will find themselves on ABC's "Monday Night Football" for the first time in two seasons.

Potential prime-time opponents include Philadelphia, New Orleans and Indianapolis. The prospect of a game featuring receivers Randy Moss and Terrell Owens, whom the Eagles acquired this offseason, provides a intriguing story line.

The Vikings, who played at least one Monday night game every season from 1987 to 2001, were told last month that they would open the season by playing host to Dallas at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 12 in the second game of Fox's national doubleheader.

I would love for the Texans to play the Colts on Thanksgiving. There's an angle with Carr/Harrington, Johnson/Rogers, and perhaps Wilfork/Taylor or Taylor/Winslow.
