NFL schedule comes out today
By Rudy Martzke, USA TODAY
Christmas falling on a Saturday this year required audibles on the NFL's schedule that will be announced today at 5 p.m. ET on the NFL Network.
For the first time since the 1971 playoffs, when Christmas dinners were delayed until the finish of the two-overtime Miami-Kansas City playoff game, there will be a doubleheader Dec. 25.
CBS has a game at 5 p.m. and ESPN has one at 8:30.
"It will be dark in the East before we kick off on Christmas Day," said NFL vice president Greg Aiello, declining to reveal the teams.
Fox carries the first Friday game in five years, on Dec. 24 at 3 p.m.
Because of college bowl games on Saturday, Jan. 1, all NFL games over the New Year's weekend will be played on Sunday, Jan. 2.
In special interest games, Green Bay makes its first visit to Washington since 1979, and new Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens faces the Baltimore Ravens, for whom he refused to play.
