Another interesting stat comparison between the two is strikeouts and walks. Here is the 09 breakdown:
Mauer:
SO 63
BB 76

Ichiro:
SO 71
BB 32

As you can see Mauer has walked more than struckout. That is quite an accomplishment.
The speed of the player (Ichiro) would have a lot to do with that as well.
