Re: One More Time - A New York Yankees Dynasty
Yanks get the pie ready; win in walk-off fashion
Nick Swisher gets ready to toss off his helmet after his walk-off homer
New York, NY- The Yankees may be struggling, but they got to see a bit of that magic that they saw oh so much of last year. The game started off rough with Javier Vazquez giving up a 2-run bomb to a streaking Torii Hunter. Vazquez then cooled down as he cruised through the next 6 innings. On the other hand, Joe Saunders was making the Yankees look silly all game long. His change-up was just about the best it's ever been. The few balls that the Yankees actually made contact on seemed to be hit right at fielders. As frustrating as it was Marcus Thames was able to punch a 2-run double to left that made this game a bit closer. In the 8th Alfredo Aceves served up a solo shot to Kendry Morales, but was able to get out of the inning. The bottom of the 8th was a different story. Nick Johnson lead the inning off with a double, and the Yankees looked to be in business. But Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez followed that up with 2 pop-ups as the excitement left the stadium. It looked like the Yankees had taken their last blow after that. Robinson Cano then stepped in and went the other way with a Fernando Rodney 97 MPH fastball and hooked it around the foul pole to tie the game. Mariano Rivera than came in and sent the Angels down to set-up the bottom of the 9th. Nick Swisher wasn't messing around when he led off the 9th, as he took Brian Fuentes first pitch all the way into the Yankees bullpen to win it. The Yankees celebrated and Swisher got a classic Burnett pie to the face.
The Yankees look to take the series tomorrow as they send out Andy Pettitte (1-0 3.60) to face Ervin Santana (0-1 1.69)
