Re: What does Geaux mean, and how do you pronounce it?
I lived in South East Texas for about 15 years. Right near the border of Louisiana. I ended up getting married to a cajun girl. (I know, pray for me)
GREAT culture. Really friendly people.
A funny story I was told was that the reason there is an X at the end of a lot of the cajun last names is because when people signed their name they just put an X down because they did not know how to spell. LOL... Now if you know cajuns then you know they have a huge sense of humor so how true this story is I don't know.
I dated this girl for a while with the last name Thibodeaux... pronounced Tibido. Man she was a hand full. Anyway... I used to mess with her about her cajun roots and say I could prove her ancestors did not know how to spell their last name... Then I would open the phone book up and there was like 13 different ways to spell Thibodeaux in there. LOL
