NBA Live 13 In the Works, Coming Later This Year

When it comes to basketball simulation games as of late, users have only had one real genuine choice -- NBA 2K. Granted, there's nothing wrong with 2K Sports' basketball series, as it practically nails everything that the sport is supposed to be about in every way possible. But we do miss the feeling of competition. See, at one point, EA Sports was working on a contender with its NBA Live series, but then something happened, and it vanished. But don't be too alarmed, folks. The folks at EA are primed for a comeback.
It's been some time since we heard from EA with its basketball antics, save for the enjoyable NBA Jam games. The company's last attempt at anything simulation related was NBA Elite 11, a project announced in early 2010 and slated to take hold of the basketball market. But following the release of a demo that many gamers felt was complete garbage, between the glitches and the sloppy gameplay, EA Sports opted to cancel the project entirely, rather than giving it a chance on the market. Pass one year and two NBA Jam games later, and the company is ready to try its luck again, and see if it can put NBA 2K through its paces.
Earlier today on its official Twitter account, the company had announced that it had brought in Cleveland Cavalier Kyrie Irving to test out "the new #NBALive13" , complete with a picture showing Irving and a fellow player trying the game out with controllers. That indication right there showed that EA Sports was not only coming back to serious basketball games, but also ditching the Elite name in favor of NBA Live, a brand it's been working with since back in the Sega Genesis days. Rumors began running wildly about what kind of features EA would include in the game, but aside from that tweet, no other official announcements had taken place as of yet.
We should know more about NBA Live 13 in the months ahead, including possible gameplay techniques, league features, online tournaments and more. For now, though, we're just glad that EA Sports came around to giving the brand a chance again. Whether it can compete with NBA 2K13 or not is a different story, but it'll be interesting to see how things pan out...
