Yeah, the "gyroball" is actually just a different METHOD of pitching that a lot of guys throw in Japan. It purportedly optimizes the ball spin to reduce wear and tear on pitchers. BAsically, they use a different arm angle and delivery method.
For a pitch to truly "gyro" it would require spinning (or having centrifugal inertia) in two different directions, which is impossible for a solid object.
One thing I know for sure is that it's not is a 97-mph pitch that moves three feet sideways and six inches up.
