Tony Hawk Creators No Longer Making Tony Hawk Games

Kotaku, Edge and Gamespot all have the details. What do you think comes out of this?

"Speaking with the Great Falls Tribune, Neversoft founder Joel Jewett says that the next Tony Hawk will indeed be the first main entry in the franchise to be developed outside of Neversoft."

Ohhhhhh SNAP! Rarely have I seen a crown SNATCHED off of a company's head this way. I hope they go head to head with Skate., rather than try to compete with a more arcadey approach. Skate is fantastic, but there are still features it can improve on just as a video game. I'd love to see skateboard sim competition down the road, and I wouldn't mind them adding bikes and rollerblades to the franchise.

I agree with the Neversoft guy, I think the Tony Hawk series just got pretty complacent and similar to past games, and then Skate shook up the genre.

Can't really blame them though, there was no competition, we see it all the time with games. I think skate. suprised everyone with how good it was.

Oh, totally...I don't blame them, just agree that the infusion of energy is good. I'd have gotten complacent too!

Re: Tony Hawk Creators No Longer Making Tony Hawk Games

It sounds like there will still be games, which is good because Tony Hawk series has so many good pro skaters. This doesn't surprise me since 2008 was the first year that Neversoft missed a fall release since the franchise began in 1999.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground was actually a pretty fun game. I just hope that any future games don't obliterate all the cool tricks and features to make room for "functionality" (see the horrible All-Play games on the Wii).
