Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Refinements (IGN)

The video looks nice, don't get me wrong. I'm curious as to how '09 won twelve sports video game of the year awards? It must have been a down year. There were a LOT of gameplay flaws and glitches, and I can only hope none of them reappear in NHL '10.

I'm also worried that some of the new animations will end up being overdone, such as the stick-play from the knees and smacking the puck out of the air. Hopefully the AI has also been fixed, namely on the human-controlled side.

The boardplay looks good, but I'm also nervous about the fighting. First person fighting looks badass, but I really wonder how it will feel. Last year's fighting was awful, there needs to be more of a scrappy feeling and less about throwing haymakers.

I'm excited about the crowds--finally at least one EA team is doing them right. I also look forward to hearing about improvements to Franchise and BAP. Does anyone know if anything has been done to either of those modes? They certainly could use some help.

The fighting looks like rubbish. The collision detection for punches doesn't look good.

Everything else looks great though, especially the goalie animations.

It looks a bit rough but I think it's a step up from last years two punch knock out.

I'm not a huge NHL fan, but I'm excited for this game!

It's amazing how far they've come along in the past 2-3 years, kudos!

Re: NHL 10 Video: Gameplay Refinements (IGN)

that was impressive.
i just wish you had the option to not fight in first person, and more than one fight could happen at the same time.
Other than that, I just hope its easier to create a team and edit your own players in there.
And hopefully the simulated stats are more accurate.

Man I think everything looks great, especially the fighting. When EA first released the idea of first person fighting I was highly skeptical. I thought it would be a crap gimmick that looked and played like rubbish. From the look of the video it seemed fluid and believable. The players were bobbing and weaving at a believable pace and the punches were hard to land (which will make the engine playable and skill based.) My only concern with the FPF is the player models. I mean, in the video we saw Chara vs. Martinek and they looked the same size and reach. In 09 when players would fight they would each morph to a standardized height and what not. Mike Green and Chara were the same size in fights in 09 and it looks like they will be the same in 2010.

I seriously can't wait to play this game though, boardplay is going to be a welcome addition to dynasty mode now that I can finally win a few dumps that the computer throws into my zone!

This could be the greatest sports game ever made based on that video.
