Madden 10: Six Franchise Strategies for Success

Every year a new Madden title is released, and regardless of whether the gameplay, animations, graphics or commentary is praised or criticized, one of the consistently played and enjoyed aspects of Madden is its franchise mode. And since its debut in Madden 99, the notion of a franchise or career mode has grown to become a necessity in all sports games.

And while Madden 10 brings forth the exciting new feature of an online franchise mode, there are invariably many who still enjoy the standard offline franchise mode (myself included). So for those of you wanting to rebuild that struggling franchise, or for anyone wishing to strengthen his or her favorite team, hopefully some of these words are useful during your managerial endeavors.

very good article. 1st part about contracts should be reposted and stickied cuz they are so many people that dont know why they got a big cap penalty the next year (1 guy on here said he made a ton of moves 1st year and next year had $120 mill in cap penalties) LOL. Ive personally answered that question on here 4 times in the past week.

Great read bro. But there are too many sim issues with this years engine, that i just cannot LOVE franchise mode.

I have to control ALL 32 teams just to try to make things work out. EA did a pizz poor job on testing this mode, yet again!

Re: Madden 10: Six Franchise Strategies for Success

I have a couple questions.
1) If i trade a player with a signing bonus for a draft pick, do i still have to pay the player the signing bonus for the remainder years? Does that show up in the salary cap penalty?

2) When the option is given to clear your cap penalty, how does that work?

Signing 7th round draft picks to 7 year deals is pretty smart. I've been doing it since 2004. Like he said, they cost and penalty is minimal, and only under extremely rare circumstances will it come back to bite you in a CAP crunch.
