I could do without the contrails coming off
the cars in front of Montoya. Gonna take a wait and see approach. I don't want an overly arcade experience.

My guess is that all of that can be turned off so that the gameplay screen isn't "busy".

As for commentary, I really don't want it during the race, outside of maybe cautions, pre-race, and post race. During the race, I like to hear the crew chief as well as spotter.

Hoping the interaction with those 2 is more abundant in the final game vs what it was in this short "demo" clip.

This game is so refreshing. So many racing sims are made in an almost clinical way, whereby the level of car detail is intricately represented. However these games fail to deliver the raceday experience.
Nascar 2011 seems to be adding some much needed atmosphere.

Liking the leaderboard ticker across the top & the track monitor at the bottom. The only thing I thought was a bit naff is the draft meter. If the physics of the game are good enough you will be able to judge when you are ready to take the slingshot. Hopefully the meter can be switched off.

This is actually looking pretty sweet. I see a lot of potential depth in this game.

I'm sure I've seen some screens/vids with hardly any info on the screen as I remember thinking the same thing when I saw the first video. Really can't wait to hear some hands on impressions. Out of interest Blue, will it be the final build that you're playing at Daytona?

Not the final build. This game will actually be worked on until about week before release. They are not doing the pressing until 2-3 days before shipping. So no one is going to have a retail version for the review. This may change, but I just confirmed this info late last week.

You would think they would want reviews out as soon as possible.

Re: NASCAR The Game 2011 Video: Gameplay Footage with Announcers

It looks like the game is shaping up nicely. The announcers is a nice addition but it doesn't sound natural as it comes off a little robotic. Would have been cool to have the real announcers for the Sprint Cup as it would have been sweet to hear "boogity boogity boogity.......let's go racing boys!"

Damage model looks good but that should have affected Juan's ability to move through the pack more than that. They definitely need to penalize those who are unable to race clean. Keeps it from becoming bumper cars.

Crew chief giving advice is really good. Hoping to hear more of it applying to the actual race at hand and even more so with the situation.

Overall, not bad for a first effort!
