NHL 15 Interview with Lead Producer Sean Ramjagsingh Reveals a Few More Details

The Globe and Mail have posted an interview with Sean Ramjagsingh, Lead Producer of NHL 15, giving us a few more details about the game.

Quote:
You don’t get repetition. With limited animation, I have an animation for hitting you straight on and I have one for hitting you at a 45-degree angle, but if you’re somewhere in between, I need to make a choice between animations. With physics, you can change the degree of the impact by one degree and you’re going to get a different reaction every single time depending on all the variables. It really adds unlimited variety.

...Now, when the puck is shot and hits the goalie, if it hits on the pads or chest protector or glove, you get a different reaction depending on speed and variables. We’re still in the development process but we’re already seeing things that we’ve never seen happen before. We’re seeing goalies try new desperation saves because the puck hits them and starts trickling across the goal line and they need to react to that.

...Now you’re going to have a puck that will hit a goalie under the arm and then squeak through between the cloth and the equipment that we have modelled there. Before, the equipment and the body were all just one entity. By separating out the layers, now we get this behaviour where the puck reacts with the cloth and the body and/or the equipment underneath it.
Platform: Xbox 360 / PS3 / PS4 / Xbox One

misleading title

there isn't much new revealed here, except the physics will supposedly take into account the players jersey and equipment under it if the puck hits them, which I am skeptical is actually true

I recall hearing the same thing over the last 5 years as well.
How many times did we hear "We're seeing things we've never seen before"?

I'm still very interested in what next-gen EA hockey looks like.
But at this point, talk is cheap. Let's see some gameplay. Especially CPU vs CPU.

i honestly just want to ask this one question..

Rammer, you talk about all this new horse power with the next gen consoles. saying you can now add all the authentic arenas. great! but, how did the NHL 2K series have all the arenas in their game 2 gens ago?

not trolling here, serious question.

i mean they always talk about having an authentic experience (which we know is a farce), so how come we didnt see the arenas say if not in 07, but in NHL 08?

so frustrating...

This a company that claims new puck physics every year, yet it let a bouncing volleyball puck in the corners escape its QA process in 14. Worse, it did nothing to address it. Reached coaster status for me after about one week. Collected dust and went back as a trade-in towards The Show 14.

Not buying into any crap marketing sessions framed as Q & A's. Waiting until November at least, then coming here to read critiques, before I even contemplate buying 15. You have richly earned my skepticism, EA. Congrats.

its so frustrating NYR fan to see it say & play in Ny arena...not MSG! cannot wait for the custom arenas similar to games like madden, mlb, nba, etc! and stoked for the new commentary team w doc & eddie 0.but i wished they added pierre since he's part of that 3 man team. between the the benches hopefully! and w the ps4 upgrades being way more than the ps3 version I'm solo glad i upgraded.....IF this all holds up & is true!!!

Well the addition of nbc presentation and graphic upgrade is a plus. But I agree the offline gameplay needs a serious overhaul. The puck physics, goalies, AI, individual player ratings/skills, team differences and playing styles, arena differences which they claim has been fixed.
I agree 2k had the unique arena differences, best goalies, puck physics and player / team style of play and uniqueness back in 2k3 which was 11 years ago. If EA messes up this iteration I seriously hope 2k or Sony make a hockey game for next gen.
