The Jets Don't Yet Have a Starting QB...

The Broncos starting QB position is stealing most of the headlines this offseason, but it must be stated the Jets probably won't have a solid idea of who their starting QB is going to be by draft time.

Right now the Jets are down to a pair of options: Geno Smith/Bryce Petty or trying to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick to a new deal -- which has proved troublesome.

Quote:
"Lost in the kerfuffle of the Denver Broncos' quarterback mess is that we've gotten to tax day and the New York Jets still don't have a quarterback either.

Perhaps it's that we all think that eventually Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets will find some kind of middle ground and come to a deal, but there hasn't been a Broncos level of public worry about who will start for the Jets.

Fitzpatrick is unsigned, the very little information that has leaked out has indicated the sides aren't close, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday there's no deal expected by the draft. That seems clear, given how little movement there has seemingly been, but it is putting the Jets in a rough spot."

Its true that most expect the Jets and Fitzpatrick to come to a deal -- but at what cost to the future of the franchise? Will the Jets panic and overpay? Will they settle for Geno Smith?

What would you do if you were the GM faced with a similar situation in Madden?

Did Hoyer get cut officially? If so, Fitzpatrick will lose some leverage. Hold out and let him come down in price. If Fitz signs elsewhere, look at bringing Hoyer in.

I liked what you wrote about the Broncos and there super bowl defence wish they could Miller and that defense to feel hard to move the ball on !So with that said i also wish all the jets QB's would play like there real self ! tTo where if you started a CFM you be worried about the QB's position !inaccurate passes , do something more with awareness . With that said yes they should look at Paxton lynch in the draft as far as a QB. all teams need a solid QB the nfl teams have always went out there way to get QB's.

In Madden, I would probably try to trade up in the Draft or I would have signed a Free Agent.

Sign Hoyer, draft Hackenberg. Hackenberg will sit for at least a season, competition between Hoyer, Geno, and Petty; if Petty/Geno doesn't win at least backup job, ship away either one for picks.

I would sign Fitzpatrick.... Hoyer has proven he's nothing but a backup QB at best drafting a QB would mean u have to start over at a position that's important to every team.

Should of done what I did with my franchise this season in madden. Traded Geno Smith and a 6th rounder for Mark Sanchez, Sanchez took the Jets to the Superbowl, only to face the Geno Smith Eagles and beat them to win the Superbowl. Backed up with a Superbowl run the following year too....

Re: The Jets Don't Yet Have a Starting QB...

Jets have a very nice roster, that D-line is a monster, Mo should be back any time now when he signs his tender. However, that glaring need at QB sucks, especially when Decker and Marshall played so well, even Ivory played well when healthy.

In real-life, I'd say try to exploit the release of Hoyer as a below-average starter to try and lure Fitzpatrick back into the fold, that'd be the ideal situation as you can still draft a QB somewhere on Day 2 of the draft, and try to develop him, or give Petty more time back there. I'm not sure where they stand on him, not much tape to go off of.

As for Madden, I'd look to free agency and draft if possible and try to find a mobile QB, it always seemed that the Jets wanted someone who was a dual-threat under center, though maybe things changed under Bowles. 20th overall isn't the worst position to draft a QB, certainly not ideal but Bridgewater was drafted at 32nd overall and he had much less talent around him than Fitzpatrick had last season, and the Vikings are very content with him. Another possibility is to package one of those monster d-lineman with the 20th pick to move up, though I'm not a fan of trading up in Madden, there's too much talent to be found in the later rounds.
