Re: Rumors About EA/THQ Takeover May Be Right On

does this rumour speak to how EA's mma developement is going lol.

everyone always forgets that when these rumours pop up (like the TTWO one) that it takes 2 to tango. THQ probably doesn't want to be bought by EA, and I would think many shareholders don't either - at least the long-term holders. THQ is making a huge come-back and they also have for one reason or another great brand awareness. (not sure if it's the logo or what) but THQ has ring to it and the logo is memorable and its recognition imo is bigger than the company actually is.

And keep in mind with paint booth, you had to be pretty skilled with Paint Shop Pro to really use this feature.
Good thing NASCAR was picked up by Gran Turismo. Doubt theres gonna be any depth to it because its part of a bigger game, but still think its gonna be pretty good considering the detail they put into the Gran Turismo games.

It's not a monopoly. The gaming industry is an oligopoly (a few big guys dominate the industry, lot's of smaller ones with very small shares). An oligopoly is not illegal. Quite to the contrary, it's the form a large number of us industries take. Fast food, gas, beer, computers, shoes, etc. It works quite fine.

A lot of people like to throw monopoly around with EA because they have exclusive rights to football, and a few other sports. But in a federal case, all EA would have to do is point out that including hardware sales, they're revenue is only about 5-6% of the industry. And the fact that they are no where near dominating the software aspect, as there are plenty of developers with very strong revenue, and Activision, as another poster said, is actually higher than EA (thanks to Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, mostly the latter).

EA is no more a monopoly than Reebok for being our only source of NFL equipment.

Not only that...but with the news of layoffs.....It might finally become a little more apparent...what I've been saying for years...EA is not even a profitable company. They bleed money thanks to plenty of factors...but a huge one being...yep that exclusive license deal.(obviously more than one)Too big of a nut.
That "cash cow" is really a "cash albatross".

Re: Rumors About EA/THQ Takeover May Be Right On

Why does everyone think Madden defines EA? They have so many good games. In fact, the only bad games they really have are their football and basketball games. Fight Night is amazing. FIFA is awesome. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Spore, and the Sims are all award winning games. Madden is not some sort of God game that controls the fate of EA.
