Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 News Post

Videogamer has posted their hands-on preview of Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

Quote:
"The first thing we were told by the Konami rep is that the frame rate issues that plagued the last game are completely gone. Well thank God for that. Fans will remember that the PS3 version in particular suffered from game breaking slowdown whenever the action approached the penalty area. The Xbox 360 version wasn't without its problems either, although it was a much smoother experience. But the fact is that it was a stuttering, annoying mess.

Well it's all gone. Completely gone. We played match after match on the Xbox 360 version and didn't spot a hint of slowdown. It all runs in what looks like gorgeous 60 frames per second graphical goodness, which delighted us, and we're sure will delight anyone who loves the series."

Does anyone know if Pro Evo 2009 will have a view equivalent to the Pro View mode in FIFA 08/09? The up and down view mode Pro Evo presently has is pretty goo, but the dynamic camera of the FIFA Pro View mode is really exciting to play.

I have mixed reviews about this.

The Good:

*The game plays more like PES 5.
*The return of full Edit mode
*No framerate issues
*Manual player mode

The VERY bad:

*Other versions (PC) have been sent off to external developers (could be a good thing though)
*The reviewer said that they really liked the gameplay in 08 and thought PES 6 was bad. Is he an arcade guy?
*"You're quickly hounded by the opposition". If this happens for 90+ minutes in every game from every team how realistic is that? The game will get BORING rather quickly.

In the Seabass interview he claimed the he wanted to "make the game fun". I know our definition of fun includes the words realistic and challenging. IMO, "fun" to the developers means arcade. Kinda scary.

From what I can tell, the whole "fun and easy to play" merely amounts to a change of the control scheme. You no longer have to press R1 or R2 to stop the ball, as you can do that by letting go of the analog. Also, the AI is smarter and will run into open space more, and not always require you to command then to run forward.

Fortunately, it seems that's all they are referring to.

It's... Not.

Same thing happens in 2008, unless you play on REGULAR or below.

I wish there was some video of some HUMAN vs CPU on the two highest difficulties. That would be most telling.
