Great vid Czar I had know I idea that the QSAB was a rhythm based system. This is a great tutorial for those that are trying to understand how the system works.

Brilliance as always, I don't even need to watch the video to know that.

And and my write-up of the information you basically gave is a few threads below on the front page for anyone who needs a written guide. But thanks for doing a video so that we now have two references to the controls.

Thanks RSM I was almost finished with the video when I saw your post. very well written so I may not finish this series as you have it all covered there. Good stuff.

Haha... damn I didn't plan to single-handedly destroy the series before it was finished. I think you put it into better words than I could anyways. You could always finish the rest of the vids and have the guide and videos co-exist with each other. I think that'd work out nice for anyone looking for in-depth assistance with the controls of the game. I'm more of a visual aid fan myself. But yeah, feel free to use the guide for your vids. After all, that's what I made it for.

Not used to the NBA LIVE series. I have a few questions, maybe some of you all can answer this question.
Since the dribbling/handling of the ball seems so intuitive, is fatigue factored into handling the ball. Seems like if someone dribbles the rock as fast as some of the animations, the player would get fatigued quicker.

I've never checked to see whether or not fatigue drops based on the number of dribbles or whatever, but I'd have to check later on to be completely sure. It seems like something 2k would implement first, though.

czar,
that was pure basketball goodness. don't scrap the rest of your vids man, i need all the help i can get. i was one of those who thought the qsab moves were unresponsive, but its nice to know that EA has added some depth and a learning curve to their games. it makes the simulation experience more true to life. now if they can make the application of these moves more realistic, things will be good. again, quality work, and i look forward to the next. btw, the first czarisode was deep as well. LIVE is going to be a solid sim this year.

Great videos! EA ought to pay you for your efforts because your videos certainly make it harder for me to settle on a choice of a basketball game this year.

After several hours with the demo, I simply find the gameplay more FUN than anything from the 2k series, lately, even though 2k does so many things right. It's EA's new and intuitive play calling system, along with their floor spacing that really drives it home for me. But now 2k had to go and show screenshots of what looks to be an amazing Association mode. Arrrgghhh! I can't make up my mind. If only 2k's isomotion wasn't a broken system and they improved the shot stick (I still can't shoot J's with it) then I wouldn't be as inclined to give EA my money. What's everybody else going with this year?

And no, I'm not one of those people who boasts "I'm buying BOTH!!!!" because games are expensive and there are so many good ones coming out this season.

Haha Czar, you are something else man. Great Job as always. I didn't realize the depth of Lives dribbling system and you didn't even cover the explosion animations/Quickstrike A's out of those standstill dribbles.

Great stuff...

Just wanted to say great job Czar. I hadnt even noticed some of the subtleties that you pointed out. Your first video about playcalling had me playing the demo nonstop trying out the variations. Keep 'em coming. These training videos should be in the game because they are much better than the usual EA ones.

Haha, you showin' out Czar, get you some, haha. I might have to rent me some Live this year, tight video cousin.

Man, you make the games look better with your videos. Last year I saw a couple of your vids from 2k8, and they made me love the game even more.

This year, the same thing is happening. I like Live this year too, but with these videos, i'm liking it even more. They help to understand the game better, even if I already know what you're showing.

Amazing vids, and man, seriously, even better music.

Awesome video. That video tutorial just opened up a whole new world for me on this Live demo. EA should pay you for that and use it on their website. It really shows off the depth and realism that they were able to accomplish with dribbling this year. Could certainly use that as a major selling point to sim players. Give us more man!

Czar... you know what's up man

Great video and it came right when I got a chance to DL the demo and play last night. Went into practice and saw what you were explaining to us..

Broke Fisher off a few times and Lamar Odom as well using some of the moves you showed us.

Give the man a break EA! Look at what he can do with the game.. the real fans of the game is where it's at. Somebody needs to give this brotha a job.

Czar, this is amazing! I just wanted to let you know that all of us at EA SPORTS are watching and loving what you're doing!

Fantastic job!

Yeah, great stuff as always. I had a lot of fun just playing around with the dribbles in the practice gym... there are super-fast ones also, which I guess would be .5 .5 .5 .5 .5 haha...

The problems with this system for a lot of people start when the contact animations on the perimeter start happening and they get pushed out of an animation, etc. -- that's where most of the "unresponsive/sluggish" complaints are coming from. I kind of agree, just because with such a rhythm-based system, any disruption can cause you to do a bunch of stuff you weren't planning... but I do think that will prevent a lot of the super-crazy spin-spin-spin stuff that was happening with the moves in Live 08, so it might be a net gain in terms of realistic play and tempo.

# 19 23 @ 09/19/08 01:41 PM
Then that begs the question, how do you compensate for contact... i thought about that as I drove to the bucket on LO with PP, he rode my hip the entire way but i was still able to keep going and get my shot off... it was nice, but i wasnt crossing on him the entire way

The only other thing about the dribble moves is that the video didnt show much of them in motion, just off the stand still.. but you can definitely do some of it while trying to get the defender off balance.

Sup Family !! Sincere thanks to everyone who stopped to say something about the video. Its really helpful to know the vids are helping some of you out there enjoy the game.

stumble that .5.5.5. was Hilarious... Loved it !!!

Kdre and stumble both have great points on how do you handle the contact. The next vid will get more into the moves in motion. So far I think its spiderman as Czar would say... with much power comes much responsibility.

I think they gave us a bit to much help with the animations that kick in to "save" you from being ripped like the auto step back or bump back that happens just as you may be making a decision to make a move.

The way they handle the contact is much much much better than last year... that autoforce you to the right every time was difficult to adjust to. The thing I like is that you know what. Offense does not always dictate .

If Defense is right in front of you in real life you can try a running inside out if you wanted but if he doesn't move he would in effect "stop your animation" if you will that is an ugly collision in real life. But in real life I wouldn't choose to make that move. I think we have become accustomed to doing anything whenever we want because its a game. But in real life what you can do is in part dictated by how the defense decides to play you.

again thanks everyone for posting it really does make a difference and we will move on with this series and see how some of these questions get answered.
