Could it be? ESPN is reporting Michael Jordan could possibly be the cover athlete for NBA 2K11.
Quote:
"While rumors pegged LeBron James, Derrick Rose, and even Tyreke Evans as favorites to appear on the cover of "NBA 2K11," multiple sources have told ESPN that the company has gone a completely different direction, opting to shoot for the moon in attempts to sign basketball legend Michael Jordan as their new spokesman."
Obviously you've got it, so it's a real thing, but I thought the Jordan cover was the "bootleg" copy? That's probably not why it doesn't work anymore, but it's like any MLB jersey on e-Bay that sells for less than $100 and says "Authentic."
WTF? No! Like I said before, it just isn't the US version. It doesn't work anymore because it has too many scratches. I bought it brand new when it came out and it worked fine. This ain't no "bootleg" LMFAO. It's the real deal.
I believe the slim PS2 reads disks better compared to the fat PS2(which is the one I have) so if I bought the slim one it may still work.
I don't know. The game came out before the season. Unless they got a photo of MJ as a wizard from the pre-season games...that's weird. What was the release date in Japan?
By the way, the photo looks low quality... And what's going on in the background?!
See that Michael Jordan picture? Its the real deal.
It seems as if many didn't know about Jordan being the cover athlete as a member of the Wizards.
I don't know either way, for I'm no specialist, but for what it's worth, here's a link to NBA Live covers throughout the games' entire existance. Yes, I acknowledge that it'd be possible some foreign covers are passed over, but it does seem rather thorough, with other years of foreign releases being acknowledged.
Again, I don't know anything about foreign releases of NBA Live, but there does seem to be a theme of official releases featuring that country's native on the cover (Yuta Tabuse for Japan in 2006). http://www.nba-live.com/nbalivewiki/index.php/Cover
Edit: Nevermind, maybe. I've been kind of curious how this whole thing works, but I do believe it'd be more than possible that Japan perhaps released their version late in the year (so as to throw MJ on the cover) and I see a share of covers might not be represented by my link. For one, I see that Luol Deng was on the cover of NBA Live '09 in Britain, though again, Deng is British. If a country were ever going to make an exemption for not having a native on the cover however, I'd suppose it'd be for Michael Jordan.

So you guys think I'm lying and EA Japan is also lying about Jordan being the cover athlete of Live 2002? What more do I have to do to convince you guys?
As I am typing this I just looked at the game manual and the cover is Michael Jordan.
Seems as if many did not know about MJ being in the cover and I don't expect US sites to know about it either.

Yeah that's my fault. It's not a big deal either way to me but for some reason on this slow Tuesday morning it did pique my curiosity. I edited my post just after you quoted it. I will say, as a release, it seems it was surely under wraps. I cannot find any information on its existance online anywhere (save for your foreign link, which I unfortunately do not understand).
It's natural for people to be skeptical in this situation, with the knowledge that games can be bootlegged to look legit with minor alterations (sort of like bootleg Jordan shoes sold to look the exact same except with a slightly crooked Jumpman). I just wonder what the exact circumstances behind the Jordan cover really were.
This is fake...I just ran the scanner over the JPG just now, the picture quality is not professional, in fact shopped the background was a dead give away, why is it blurred out ? COVER IS DOCTORED END OF STORY.
The background is blurry because it has advertisements etc so they have to block it out. Also the pic is bad because the site/picture was made in 2001.

Even if you don't understand the language the fact that the official Japan EA Sports website has the same exact MJ picture as the Live 2002 cover pretty much clears everything up. Or do you guys think that it is a mere coincidence?
It may be official, but still weird. On the back side of the box it's still Francis - not an in-game picture, but probably the one that's on the American version.

Nope the back is right. It does have Francis on mine as well. The in-game pictures are different between the US and Japan version:
if he is on the cover would he be pictured as bull , just asking because he is a owner now. Not something we have seen before?? Would it be pic of him in nike gear / air jordan gear?

No I found it a few other places online. It seems to be legit.
Lots of talk about a foreign game from 02... Nice. At any rate... As far as Jordan appearing on the cover and not a current player? If I could put Jordan on the side of a yogurt bottle I would! Everything he touches sells! As far as him being a playable character and the rest of the game... Aint nothing changed, I still want the game to be made properly. Check the shot percentages, pick and roll defense, all that. Yall think cause Jordan is in the game its gonna be good? What if he's the only player they sign? What if you cant use him? What if none of the legends are editable? What if they do include classic teams but you cant use them in quick play mode? What if they just include them in a separate canned mode where they put an amount of time on the clock and say, "now finish the game". As a community, I don't believe we are aggressive enough about getting what we want from a game. How many of you are prepared NOT to buy it if it sucks? Our dollars are suppose to count. The issues that we have with 2K10 are literally inexcusable. But yet, we are excited about Jordan. Im the biggest Jordan fan, but I know that all of a sudden 2K isnt about to use more space on the disk just because of him. Dont forget, for whatever they give you, they will take something back. This is a business first! As somebody who worked for the biggest marketing company in the world for 12 years, I cringe when I read, "Yeah! I'd pay $100 dollars for this game with Jordan in it!" "Id pay $65 on opening day!" Are you crazy?!! If this game sucks, how about I might deliver the game back to them personally and tell them how bad it is. How about that? How about, if the game sucks, NOBODY here should buy it untill its fixed, shot percentages and ALL. Somebody said that we will never get a perfect game. Why would they give us a perfect game when they can get money for a flawed game? Let me add that I just saw a commercial for 2K11. The game looked exactly the same, and yes I have an HD tv! Last thought... Stop being groupies and DEMAND what you want! If that game drops and nobody buys it, they will SCRAMBLE to fix it and put everything in it!
