NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports has just posted their NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, written by Gameplay Producer Zach Timmerman, as he talks about the "Jordan Challenge" and a few other tidbits.

Quote:
"One thing that hasn’t really been mentioned in all the great coverage today, we spent a tremendous amount of time getting the Historic Bulls teams and their biggest rivals into NBA 2K11. We went out and got the rights to the actual players from each era and spent a ton of time capturing their signature shots, moves, and tendencies. So not only are we building you the perfect Michael Jordan in-game, we are also giving you some of the games great players from yesteryear such as Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and many others. With those guys in the game, it didn’t feel right without adding era specific commentary. I am sure the audio team will get into that more in a future Insight.

For now, here are the Historic Teams that will be immediately available for you to play this year:

1985-86 Chicago Bulls
1985-86 Boston Celtics
1989-90 Chicago Bulls
1989-90 Atlanta Hawks
1989-90 Cleveland Cavaliers
1989-90 Detroit Pistons
1990-91 Chicago Bulls
1990-91 Los Angeles Lakers
1991-92 Chicago Bulls
1991-92 Portland Trailblazers
1994-95 Chicago Bulls
1994-95 New York Knicks
1995-96 Chicago Bulls
1995-96 Seattle Supersonics
1996-97 Chicago Bulls
1996-97 Utah Jazz
1997-98 Chicago Bulls
1997-98 Utah Jazz"

That line seems at least a little open to interpretation. It sounds like those are the squads available from the start, as if there may be more open down the road. Even if it just ends up being those 20 teams, I'm super amped. 20 historic teams! With a lot of real players! One of the coolest things ever.

This could quite possibly be the illest thing ever. I may never have to buy another basketball game. I'm amped!

RIP to the NBA Elite Series
2010-2010
Indeed. I'm definitely hoping the Pacers get a team in there at some point. That would be awesome.

The last thing I wanted was Clark freaking Kellog going off on how Luc Longley's dunk was the "no wait, dunk of the year".

I wonder what we'll be able to unlock. I mean, I like it that you can play all the challenges at will, but I do want to have some reward/challenge. We'll have to wait and see.

Nice touch to add the "vintage" commentary. Game is still at rental status for me but has at least moved up to a day 1 rental, thus far. Lol. Need game play improvement show and proving then I'll see if day 1 rental status can move up to day 1 purchase status.

Weird that they didn't mention Magic:

I would assume that Magic is like the first name that would be mentioned (as he's in the 1991 Lakers, his last season before the first retirement). But it may be just a random little list.

This is about MJ's self proclaimed favorite moments and unfortunately for you he never had any against your championship Rockets. When they were champs, he was retired. Therefore, they are not in the game.

It would have been cool to squeeze in that game 7 against the Pacers in the conference finals that the Bulls barely survived. You can't please everyone though and I'm happy with what they DO have. Good job 2k!!

Do you think "the other company" will buy the license in 2011?

Great news, but:
"The Flu Game
When: June 11, 1997. Game 6, 1997 Finals (not the last game of the series as it went to 7) vs. Jazz"

What series was HE watching?!?! LOL. That would be Game 5. No Bulls team went 7 in the Finals...

Yeah, noticed that too. And the 1992 one says: "Game 1, 1st round playoffs vs. Blazers"...

1st round, eh? Are we talking about T-Mac?

C'mon man, stop complaining. I'm sure there's some teams that will be left out, but for now this is great news. I don't get why people don't understand the term "You can't please everybody" and learn to live with it. *Kanyeshrug*

# 39 clivo1050 @ 07/22/10 07:22 PM
I hope they got the entire rosters for the old teams in the game. I'm sure guys like Pippen and Rodman needed the money.

# 40 youvalss @ 07/22/10 07:24 PM
I hope they'll have MJ after the 1994-95 game, driving home and watching Seinfeld...maybe "The Soup Natzi" episode...
