Ordinarily in basketball, a delay of game penalty costs a team no more than a free throw and possession of the ball. But when the delayed game is NBA Elite 11, the punishment could be more severe.
Quote:
"In a note to investors, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said the delay could cost publisher Electronic Arts as much as $60 million. Pachter lowered his holiday quarter revenue projections for the publisher from $1.52 billion to $1.46 billion, reflecting the loss of 1.1 million sales of NBA Elite 11.
Perhaps worse, Pachter thinks the game's 2011 first quarter sales will now be less than before, even with the game presumably launching in that window. In revising his figures, Pachter said he only expects the game to sell 500,000 copies at launch. When NBA Elite 11 was still set for an October launch, Pachter had expected sales of 550,000 for the January-March quarter. He even raised the prospect of it being canceled outright."
Won't EA make the money up selling NBA Jam anyway? I think most people who want to buy Elite 11 were more after Jam than Elite. Now that Jam is selling on its own, more people will go ahead and buy.
the funny thing is people think this will phase EA.
EA makes so money every year. although their profits are lower than last year, they are NEVER in the red. they say we took a loss this year to confuse idiots into thinking they aren't making money but what they really mean is we made less money than we did last year. In the end it was EA who decided to delay the game not the developers so they already knew what was going to happen. i can see somebody getting fired but don't for a second think this will hurt EA in any way.
Come on man, at least do some research before you post.
And why would they say they took a loss to "confuse idiots into thinking they aren't making money?" That doesn't even make sense. Yeah, let's convince people we aren't making money. Great idea.
Duyuhhhhh lets see… 1.1 mil copies X $59.99 = $60 mil in lost revenues. Oops. Looks like someone forgot that retailers actually have to make a profit. Please don’t ever post another quote from this guy.
2nd no way this game sells a million copies. I hope he wasn’t quoting the EA sales forecast because obviously they had no clue what was going on.
plus losses from in game advertisments.
This guy pac, says alot of outrageous stuff.
I remember ps3 was supposed to sell more than 360 like 2 years ago. Still waiting for it to happen lol.
Don't put out sucky games and expect us to buy them.
Remember about 5 years ago when EA was having their workers work ridiculous hours and weren't paying them? What goes around comes around and EA is getting what it deserves.

Doesn't work that way. Two different dev teams, two different budgets. Companies like EA project revenues for each fiscal quarter/year. Those projections will include projected sales for NBA Elite AND NBA Jam. When revenues turn out to be less than anticipated (in this case, far less), stock prices drop and people get laid off.

If you think something like this happening is good for the workers, you're mistaken.
